I think I would really really like the Langster if they hadn't put the sloping top tube. Other than that I think they are a really nice looking bike. I just don't like sloping top tubes. On any bike. Unless it slopes the other way for some reason.

raygunner 07-11-05 06:08 PM

Whatever. The message is that someone didn't come here to get put down.

Too true i see alot of people dissing other peoples rides. I bought a langster just like that it was my first fixie and i loved it!!! Bottom line is that someone just got a new bike and they enjoy riding it thats all that matters. And hey pinktele if i were you i would replace those tyres now!

teadoggg 07-11-05 08:40 PM

here's my trusty steed. it's a cannondale track frame with a custom paint job. it looks black in the pictures but it's really a super dark gray metaliac speckled paint. it's puuurdy. i *dig* the round fork blades. this bike is fast, stiff, and a BLAST to ride. pink deep V rims laced 3x with 14/15ga spokes tied to nashbar track hubs with upgraded bearings. thanks to Marcus at www.yojimbosgarage for the spokes, bearings & rims. I built them myself and i'm quite impressed with how well i did. no wobble, no hop & tough as nails. SO SEXY!

EDIT: Please ignore the pedals. New ones are on the way!

and here's my next fixie project. a raleigh record frame from '76. i love the flat red paint job. mmmm, fork rake!

Uh, those pink rims match the pink shirt you were wearing to work today.

bostontrevor 07-11-05 09:16 PM

I'm not usually a huge fan of the pink bike thing that's all the rage now, but that adds just enough color to the black to avoid the black bike thing that's at least as annoying to me. Plus the blue tires really set it off. I like it. Two beers up.

Be careful how much you sink into that Raleigh. The Raleigh Record is about the exact opposite end of the spectrum from the Raleigh Record Ace (RRA).

oh, i'm not going to spend too much. i'm just putting cheap stuff on it as i acquire it. it's going to me my beater "around the city" frame for barhopping & whatnot. i'm well aware of it's lowest position on the '76 raleigh frame totem pole. the colors are almost identical to my first bike ever - a huffy. it brings back memories.

i'm still looking for a nice lugged steel frame. i wish e-framebank was still shipping.

thanks for the nice comments.

~raygunner. yes, i know it matched the shirt. i bought an entire new wardrobe to match!

sweet bike!! I think it rules. How are the nashbar Hubs??

I picked up the set for about $45 plus shipping. Helluva deal! Light, sexy & smooth rolling. Wait for a 20% coupon & pick some up. Totally worth it. My only complaint is I wish the rear axle was about 15-20mm longer. It's fine, but makes running chaintugs a little hard.

pinktelephone 07-11-05 10:39 PM

thanks guys, i did a little ride today, it was only like 10 miles there and back but i had a good time with my friend. once i get used to it and whatever i'll step up, i have a plan for later this week for a 26 mile ride but i dont know whats going to happen, i have work and stuff :( the fork i do admit isnt the prettiest thing, but whatever, i went from a flatland fly bike to a ss road bike so i'm just glad i got what i wanted.

The forks you have are called "aero" forks. They are shaped like that for a reason.

Enjoy your bike.

How good of a deal did you get? My friends just got stolen :)
It has a flip flop hub. All you need to make it fixed is a cog and a lockring.

weed eater, here are the nashbar hubs. yes, I replaced the stock catridge bearings. it's super easy to do & totally worth it. I know phil use to make 6000 series bearings... not sure if he still is, though. they're not on his site. I need to give 'em a call.

sweet ride teadogg. i am surprised at how much I like the pinkrims/bluetyres/blackstripe... one of those things that would have sounded odd if you told me about it, but seeing it, it looks great and comes together beautifully.

thanks for the info on the hubs. i will look into replacing the bearings when i build mine up (ie when they show up).

Mercier666 07-13-05 11:23 AM

How do u like that hub? I just bought one and am gonna build up a wheel once i get da $$$.

teadoggg 07-13-05 11:26 AM

for the money, it's the jam. Totally worth it. One of the best cycling-related values out there currently, I'd say...

@ teadoggg:

Did you take the covers off your bearings, or did they just not come with any? Either way... that sucks.

There are/were no seals. No problemo, though. Easy/cheap to replace.

Phil hubs are the same way! I *think* there may be some seal unit you can buy, though. I could be making that up though.

baxtefer 07-13-05 05:38 PM

aren't most cartidge bearings sealed in themselves?

Mercier666 07-13-05 05:42 PM

Yes sir.
