i think its just some no-name track ring. I picked it up at college park bikes in MD. The guy gave it to me used but i think it was just NOS. I was stoked that it actually matches the frame i had painted.

"the spider" Body/headset/front fork: 198x Centurion LeMans frame painted matte Seat: I dont know! Guts: Surly flipflop rear hub, 16 tooth cog on one side, bmx freewheel on the other, surly front hub, mavic 3a rims, dia compe front brake, oldschool cateye vectra cyclocomputer. This is my first fixed gear project from the ground up. I picked the frame up locally on craigslist for 20 bucks. My last fixie was an ebay bust--the frame cracked, my tires popped, and the chain would pull the tire out of the dropout every ride. Spider is the complete opposite. It does me right, although i need to re-shoe the front brake, because, well, it does absolutely nothing to stop the bike unless im going less than 2 mph. :) enjoy! |
Just got this one back together and rideable. It was abandoned in an alley next to our office. I left it there for week and nobody came back for it. I added some Tsunami Toros and a Nitto 90mm stem and a tube. Sometimes good things happen to bad people....

Here's my latest SingleSpeed. Here's what it was: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=71983
It's a Miyata 310 from the 80s (I think), has cro-mo tubes, hi-ten fork, and no braze-ons except for the derailer cable stop on the chainstay (not even bottle cage bolts). I sanded (yeah I should've used stripper but I was lazy) the old chipped up paint away while retaining the only two frame decals. Then rattle-canned using Almond, Sunrise Gloss Red and Crystal Clear Rustoleum. I put on a BMX freewheel and even did my first rear wheel re-space and re-dish. I may find a coaster brake hub for it in the future and even try a complete re-lace of the wheel and save the weight of a rear brake. |
why the desire for a coaster brake if you dont mind me asking?
|
Then I could get rid of the aero brake levers and just run the front brake with single bar top lever. That would make switching from coaster to fixed much easier if I decide to do so in the future.
|
Only problem is that coaster brake hubs are heavy and so you won't really save any weight by going to that. I thought about that too and may someday try it but for now I'm going single speed with two brakes and a suzue basic hub. Should be done pretty soon.
|
Yeah,
A coaster brake would be about 17 times heavier than your rear brake and aero lever. A properly adjusted front brake will do a fine job of stopping, even on a freewheel bike. Perhaps even an excellent job. Plus, on my cruiser, I find that coaster brake just plain sucks for about anything other than lazy laps around the neighborhood. I love to get my right pedal at the 3 o'clock position to aid in starting up from a stop - I find it near impossible for me to do this intuitively and be able to apply brakes to stop at a light, sign, etc. The bike looks great though, very nice. -Pete |

Co-Motion Fixie
http://junipero.3sheep.com/~chris/co-motion.jpg Here's my track bike. It's made by Co-Motion out of Reynolds 853 Steel. It's got NJS Professional Track Hubs, Matrix Titanium 700c Rims and Continental Ultra 3000 tires. It has a 46 tooth Dura-Ace Crankset to a 15 tooth rear cog. I've got a control tech stem and Nitto Bullhorn Handlebars plus MKS Pedals. Saddle is a Selle San Marco on a Dura-Ace seatpost. |

I love monostays!
