New to the single speeds, but I picked up this old beater at a garage sale for $10 & thought it would be a great project to convert it into a s.s. I beleive it an S.R (Sakea Ringyo) as I have been told it's a Suntour********** steel frame double butted lugs. On day of purchase shifters went into the trash cable guides were ground off & now it's at the powdercoaters to coated a electric blue! I'll post more pics during the conversion!! any info on the S.R. name is welcome thanks

just wanted to post an update. that bar setup did not work. it felt like my top tube was about 30cm long.

i swapped them out for some drop bars after one 9 mile ride. I have used the MTB bars in their normal upright position (à la 46x17) and, as everyone seems to agree, they're really comfortable and surprisingly good on the uphills. Who knows, maybe I'll go back to 'em (in the upright position)...I sure like the way drops ride though, even if I'm mostly on the hoods.

weed eater 07-22-05 03:45 PM

perhaps, but that bike looks like it could get run over by a truck and come up smelling like roses.

eddiebrannan 07-22-05 04:08 PM

Mine. Stock other than front brake and Brooks saddle, which amazingly I scored today at a stoop sale in Red Hook for $30. Had been scouring eBay for days, planning to spend $70-80 on one, but I guess the bike gods chose to smile on me today. Thanks bike Gods.

I kinda like it

raygunner 07-22-05 04:35 PM

Yeah, here's a better shot. It's so hot it needs three air conditioners to stay cool. I wipe it down with the baby blankie every night. It is my pride, it is my joy. I just hope a pigeon doesn't crap on it.

Nice. I def like the new saddle though I still don't know about the angle, but I guess it's your wrists.

Stay cool.

raygunner 07-22-05 04:41 PM

Not my wrists. My junk. My junk!

Jose Cuervo 07-22-05 04:49 PM

Nah, with the right fit your junk isn't the issue. But a saddle angled forward like that puts you sliding down and you end up putting a lot of pressure on your wrists. If the setup is right, you should be able to take your hands off the bars without any difficulty.

But hey - I could be wrong.

heh, minus one for reading comprehension. (unless the original poster edited...?)

Jose Cuervo 07-22-05 04:59 PM

Ahhh - the Brooks saddle for $30 :o

Haha. My bad. I'm dumb. I've think it's time to go home now, been staring at this computer screen for way too long today.

damn tough.

ink1373 07-22-05 06:01 PM

raygunner. give me those cranks and i'll make the angry conan in my signature stop terrorizing you.

raygunner 07-22-05 06:20 PM

I dunno. I was just gonna upgrade to Campy C-Record cranks too....

Tough call....

I have an extra set if you're game. They're kinda pricey though.

Nice bike. What bottom bracket are you using to get your chainline with that crankset?
