1. Has been addressed. If you flip that stem (yeah, keep the bars right side up...), it will point upwards quite a bit, so you can remove spacers. It won't look like a bumbike. it will look like a bike set up by a knowledgeable person. Having your bars a bit higher on a custom bike isn't embarrassing, You may have short arms, bad back, whatever. Having 2 inches of spacers and then the obligatory "look, I'm cool, I have a drop stem" stem on a custom is embarrassing. As I said, there is a minute stiffness and weight gain as well. 2. WTF? seriously. Just draw a little triangle for yourself (ESL q: what do you call a triangle that has 2 sides of equal length? And one that has a right angle?) The ****ing bar will be in the ****ing same position. Which part of that don't you understand? Of course, in the end it will turn out that SC knows it's not a perfect setup and will change it once he gets everything dialed in... and here we are arguing about someone else's bike like three fools... Edit: 32flavours: I love that thing to death. Congrats. Somehow the curvy TT works for me, and I have a soft spot for bikes with well-mounted colour-coordinated fenders anyway. I'd change the bars, stem and brake lever but the rest is lovely:) 2. We're both wrong. By flipping the stem, the bars will stay in the same place, you were right about that, but by removing the spacers the bars will actually move forward a bit. The flex and weight are really not an issue. Neither one will change noticably. (Isosceles and right triangles, respectively). Perhaps he will change it, but I like it the way it is. The steering will feel quicker and the stem looks right. |

It irks me when people try to imitate the threaded look on a threadless setup. It is threadless and a rising stem is totally acceptable. Figure out the right angle e and stem length needed and chop the steertube down. Regarding strength - especially when skidding there is a good amount of force on the steertube. I have seen bent ones using this multi-spacer approach (those weren't serottas but still). |

Some guy bought it from a local bike shop and ended up never riding it... then I bought it. I got an unbelievable deal on what is pretty much a new bike. Couldn't be happier with it and probably won't sell until something happens to me or the bike while racing the **** out of it (sorry) :) |

He sold the original wheelset to someone from his LBS. The Campy headset, BB, and crank are in great condition. As for a good price I wouldn't be exactly sure. I saw a complete Paramount track bike go for $800 on Ebay, and it was the worst listing ever. The seller had no clue what he was selling. I got a great price on mine. Actually, I got a deal of a lifetime on mine. I also got a bunch of parts and a '73 P13 Paramount from the same guy. The sorted details on the deal are on the C&V board Catch of the Day thread a couple pages back (page 68).
I am looking at two Paramounts right now, one is a '67 in good shape fully built with original parts. The other is just the frame and fork (not sure about BB and headset), still working on finding out the year. Not sure which route I prefer to take, may in fact do both. One thing, you said "small 25", I know in 76 they came in 21" to 25", but did they also come in different sizes such as small 25, medium 25 and large 25? Congrats on your pickup! |
input welcome
this is rascal
rascal is the snacks. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...uck/mybike.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...mybikevert.jpg rascal is not finished yet, but i thought maybe the bf style police could help me. she is currently still in partial STP mode, hence the fatty handlebars and bottle cage, but the gearing is back to 47/18 from 47/16. rascal has the wheelset off my yellow conversion. i have a black paul hub which im planning on building up, but i dont know what rims to choose for the new wheelset. also need a new engine,i was thinking black 75s and goin to 1/8". and new wrap perhaps. this bike is used primarily for commuting downtown, going to school, picking up groceries, combatting terrorists, carrying laundry, running over snakes, working as a messenger, singletrack, spreading freedom and democracy, double centuries, cyclocross, working as a bike cop, racing in alleycats, keirin racing, the tour de france, fighting supervillains, and climbing 8000m peaks without supplemental oxygen. |
