i never thought of it as such, but looking at this build it seems like it would work quite well.

sloping top tube could cause issues on the smallest sized frame, but as long as your elbow clears the biggest ring (when throwing over your shoulder) it seems like you'd be fine.

I would definitely say more mountain. They are wicked heavy, and the geometry is pretty slack with the stock fork. If you throw on a CX fork it would steepen it up a bit, but still, better to just get a cross-check.

Yeah, the monkey makes a semi-decent cross bike and a pretty wretched road bike.

..or so i hear.

word, it looked a little crossish here. its hard to find a decent single speed cross bike besides the cross check thats in my price range

plus the cross check is a little more gnarlier in the fact that it has semi-horizontal drop outs so i can do a lot of things with it more so than the rob roy.

I've not ridden a Rob Roy, but I've seen one in real life and it
seemed sturdy, and it's probably the single most highly praised
bicycle on this forum.

yeah i wasnt gonna get into the sturdy thing. i'm not sure where it came from but who cares, i'm gonna keep beating the **** out of mine till i prove you right max :)

the horizontal dropout/derailleur hanger reason is a very good one, and i really think tony oughta consider those dropouts on the next incarnation of rr's. it's held more than a few people back from getting one.

That's it, I'm gonna remake the RR as soon as the BFSSFG IRO comes in and gets built up. That looks awesome 128.

BostonFixed 03-15-07 01:15 PM

That trail name would be way better if it were the "dip-set" trail.

endo shi 03-15-07 01:15 PM

And that dude owns the sickest track bike on the planet, so you can trust his tastes. ^^^^

That bike is not 128's

onetwentyeight 03-15-07 01:19 PM

How do the wtbs compare to more cross-oriented bars like the salsa bell lap?
