Actually, you DO have the wheel on backwards. Unless for some reason it's different on 650c tri-spokes, the stem side should be on the side of the drive-train.

Nope. Not this one. This is a 650, so I don't know if that matters. The blades go with the direction of the wheel's rotation, not vice versa.

I agree with this sentiment 100%. Taking the time to attend to the details is just as important as anything else involved in correctly maintaing your bicycle.

I did work in a shop, and it was part of the assembly and repair process that skewers go on the non-drive side and tire labels are aligned with the valve stem, but that's something I'd been doing since I knew about it. It just shows that you're paying attention to the little details in a bike build. I also hate when wheels are built with the label facing the non-drive side or so the hub label isn't visible through the valve hole.

HAHA. Yeah, flip a HED around, so the spokes are facing the wrong direction. Makes perfect sense. Who cares about aesthetic biases from anal internet kids when you could be running your aero wheel the wrong way? Sheesh!!

BTW, GR Skewers have no practical reasons for being on EITHER side of a front wheel. Especially when the back is bolted on with track nuts. The skewer was on that side when I got it and since it doesn't really matter what side it's on, I left it. As for the tire, If you're careful enough to check for glass, wire or rips, it doesn't really matter where you align the label.

Just my $0.02

i was actually referring to road bikes that have QR on both wheels, you know bikes in general.
guess i hit a sensitive spot when i talked about worrying more about color matching than other details.

as for your wheel, doubt it really matters which way your HED points though since your bike probably never gets going fast enough to benefit from the aerodynamics of the wheel...if it did though, i'm sure it would handle awesome with that 650 on the front. HAHA!

I'm not sure what you mean by "blades," but if you're talking about the sharp end of the spokes, the tapered part, that should be facing the rear. The blunt end faces forwards.

truf

johnprolly 11-05-07 01:39 PM

So the tear drop faces backwards? OOOOF

bonechilling 11-05-07 01:41 PM

It's like a time trial helmet. The tapered end is to push the air away from the rider.

piwonka 11-05-07 01:45 PM

haha, i was trying to find some link to illustrate that point but i got beat.

johnprolly 11-05-07 01:50 PM

Wow. that diagram was very helpful... I don't know why I didn't think of this. Same reason why your surfboards should be facing upside down and nose-back on your roof rack...

Thank you. That's a much better example.

Now's your chance to get that QR straight.

johnprolly 11-05-07 01:52 PM

Yeah, the guy that had it before me had it mounted the way I did. Figured it was right that the blades would slice the air with the sharper and, rather than the blunt end. Duh. OOF!
