Bully for you, I've never fit 501s. Got me some mule legs, or a severe lack of hips to make the proportion work out.

Today I hopped on the rollers, goddamn I'm out of shape. This winter is a rough one, to think I spent all last winter complaining about how mild the season was.

Scheduled to end Sunday 7-10:00am.

Not that i'd ever be as fit as any disciplined athlete, but the same thing happened to me after i started riding to work regularly.
Based on my personal experience, may i recommend:
-not APC New Standards. I went through a couple pairs of these, not for big-thigh guys. Haven't tried the relaxed-fit Rescue though.
-any Levi's commuter (i sized up in the waist and it was perfect for thighs and still slim-fitting on the bottom)
-Cadence jeans. These jeans i wear almost every day and i can ride to work and back (8 miles each way). Cone denim with a bit of stretch. they're so comfortable that most other raw denim is pretty much dead to me. YMMV/notashill

(offtopic: Carleton- now that you live in Portland, do you have a ******-ass rain bike?)

Today I: found out that the KHS Aero Track (curved ST) I found and lost on CL last year still hasn't been sold and is actually owned by the guy I bought a tricolor 600 groupset from last summer. Being kinda short, these frames never pop up in my size and i'm now wondering what exactly I wouldn't do to have one in my possession.

Thanks for the suggestions! I can tell that if I continue riding in these jeans they will split in the crotch.

I do need a rain bike. I've noticed that everyone here rides straight beater bikes. Everybody. I hear it's because bike theft is bad.

For now, I just ride to work and back, and I can bring my bike up to my office, so my Tarmac is OK. But, not for rainy days. I bought fenders, but couldn't get them to fit. So, yeah, I'm in the market for a rain/commuter bike.

Yeah, the theft is bad. I've been up here so long I forget about how it is down there. Left my lights on bike my last time in Portland and headlight was gone after 30 minutes inside to eat lunch

My desk overlooks a major street downtown. There are LOTS of people who ain't got sh*t to lose walking up and down the streets all day.

Rode a quick 6 miles tonight to give myself permission to drink beer. Felt Really Quick (for me) because of cadence, i went down to 44x17 at y'alls' suggestion. I've done faster on a 44x16 for longer, but: my legs aren't smoked afterward. I love looking at my speeds on mapmyride (yes, i know their speed calc is a little off) but i climbed a short steep hill seated (hey two months ago i had to stand for the whole thing) at a decent cadence then gave myself a break to recover... 4 mph slower on flat ground at the top than the hill. I did all of the Early Bird race clinics/crits, the San Bruno hill climb, and a handful of road races.

Aww man! I'm going to miss you. I decided to stay in tonight - stomach is not feelin' so hot. I hate missing WPH, but bubble guts on Paradise Loop would be no bueno.

P.s. thanks everybody! I'm really excited for the 4s. I have a lot of friends to race with and I can focus on trying to get some real points. Getting to 3s this season would be awesome. I will not be easy, and, realistically, a long shot but I'm going to try.

I'm not doing the Fléche, but I can swing by Crepes on Cole to say hi and celebrate your finish, I live really close by. Just finish closer to 10 than 7 please

Today I rode my bike to the doctors, as you do.
I chained her to a post, so she'd be there when I came out.
I slipped the chain through the straps of my helmet so I didn't have to carry it.
When I got back to my bike ... my helmet was full of ants Guess they must have liked the sweat soaked helmet lining.

This bums me out, as I'm planning to move there soon, & I wish it didn't sound quite like this

Today I saved my self from bringing a knife to school and getting arrested. I remembered it was in my bag right before I got on the bus. My school has metal detectors and a x-ray scanner. I probably would have gotten expelled or suspended.

One time my dumb ass tried walking through a metal detector at an airport with a knife because I was late for my flight and had forgotten it was in the side pocket of my cargo shorts. Even though it was an honest mistake, the security staff at Logan weren't too amused by a guy with dreadlocks and a huge beard trying to carry a knife onto a plane. It was enough of a fiasco to make me miss my flight.

I always forget that I have one on me, because I'm basically never without. Like a month ago, I walked into a venue in Detroit for a show, and got really lucky that the security guard who patted me down told me to just run it out to the car. They took plenty of other people's ****, so I was pretty happy about that.

Same, usually I just put it in my pocket as a habit then remember I can't bring it to school as I walk out the door. This time was the closest I've gotten to actually bringing it. My schools in a bad neighborhood and a few years ago a kid was stabbed and killed in a staircase so they take things like this very seriously.

That's just "life in the big city."

The good outweighs the bad. Seriously.

Take a look at Levi 508's. I have fairly large thighs and calves and they fit nicely.

i used to carry a knife in my pants, but one of the hospitials has a metal detecor and they give grief about them, and take them if you come in the er.
so i just leave it in the front pocket of my messenger bag.

It's not like zombie apocalypse in Portland, it's just not a place you want to leave a bike you love locked up outdoors for very long. There are many other cities like that in the USofA.

im sorry for those that have to lock their bikes out of sight for long times
