It's not about that. It's about not being an *******. It's about not being a sexist jerk that only talks about getting drunk. It's about following the rules of the forum. I may not agree with them, but I (usually) follow them and don't display things that are vulgar or offensive.

Gene, sort your ****ing life out, man. You may think that you're being funny or a hard-ass or whatever, but it's just obnoxious. It's seriously making everyone on the forum (even myself, as someone who knows what working in a kitchen does to a person) ignore your posts. Maybe some have put you on an ignore list (i.e. Kaz), but I'd be willing to bet that the rest of us just see your name and either skim the post or skip it altogether. Stop tying to impress people and just be you. Attitudes like that are good reminders of the bull****, macho, sexist, "don't give a **** about anything" attitudes so prevalent in "professional" kitchens. It's stupid, and it's part of the reason that I left the industry. I swear, if I ever go back to them and run my own place, that **** will not be tolerated.

And yes, I realize that at times every single thing in that paragraph could have been directed toward me, but I'm working to better that.

/rant.

I'd planned on a metric century this morning, but when I woke up, it was 18 degrees out so I decided to organize beer trades and work out at home instead.

I also found out that I have another funeral to go to. I think that's the first one of the year. Either that or I'm blocking **** out. Who knows.

I've had four cigarettes since Friday. I'm grumpy, but this is the best attempt at quitting thus far.

You've seemed a lot happier since leaving the food business.

Nagrom_ 03-20-13 11:09 AM

I like gene. Who else would I make drunk jokes at?

I have been indeed. Though I will say that there was some pretty heavy **** going on between Nov 2011 and July 2012 that would have made me super bummed no matter what I did for a living. I'd done some **** that caused my wife to leave me for a while (which at the time I thought I wanted. Hell, sometimes I still think I do, haha), I lost a close family member, and one of my best friends decided to vilify me, which caused me to lose a lot of other friends. The restaurant I opened ended up folding. The second restaurant I was at during all of this is such a stressful nightmare that in the 18 months it's been open they've gone through seven chefs (including me), nine sous chefs (not including me), ten dishwashers, and at least twenty cooks. Combine that with the fact that whiskey and awesome beer flowed like water at that place, and that I never had time to ride other than going to work and back, and it's a recipe for depression.

Unfortunately, at the time I only had three ways to battle my depression. Sex (an affair is what almost killed the marriage), drugs (which I refuse to ever do again), and booze (which ends up making me more depressed). Now I'm on some meds and I'm seeing a shrink semi-regularly. I love my job, I love the friends that have stayed with me and supported me throughout it all, and I love my wife. In general, life is dope.

Before anyone asks, no I am not angry at the person that caused me to lose friends and have a downward spiral of near-suicidal depression. The ones that I still have are awesome, and I know that one day all of this will be rectified.

Y'know, there's a ton of people on this forum who imbibe to excess but don't feel the need to swing their dick around, exaggerated ruler in hand like Gene - so I think we all enjoy drunk jokes. He is a pretty great butt of them though.

Back OT, I am way too hungry today but got an extension on a term paper an hour ago. An old roommate is coming to visit which means I'm going ALL GENESTARWIND UP IN THIS ***** TONITE. MD 20/20 for errybody.

Just kiddin' (about the mad dog, at least).

Try mints. I broke my habit by putting a pack of mints everywhere I would enjoy lighting up or anywhere I was likely to get stressed. I haven't smoked in nearly a year, but now I'm hooked on mints instead. At least my breath smells better ALL THE TIME.

I love my beer. My favorite thing to do while drinking it is not go on the internet.

But mints are expensive!

Ha. Kidding. Smokes are $11/pack now. My boss smokes like, one cigarette a month. He didn't realize I was trying to quit, bought a pack, had one, tossed the pack in my toolbox.

MediaMonkey. Will never go back to iTunes after that horrible update I've been putting off for months.

Does it work with iThings?

SpeshulEd 03-20-13 01:47 PM

Well, this thread is sobering.

My life is pretty normal, I'm having a good time and I can enjoy recreational pastimes without issue.

To be honest, I haven't really had any drama in my life for over 5 years.

Woo! Go me!

They want CC info, that is lame. Is this for listening to your own music or streaming/buying music only?

Nagrom_ 03-20-13 04:23 PM

Walking is now hard.

It shouldn't ask for CC info unless you're buying something.
