Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Guys, "To Live and Ride in LA" is on Netflix Instant. It's so incredibly ****ing stupid. I'll type my thoughts as I watch it.

- In one scene a guy gets cheers for jumping his bike off 3 stairs. SO IMPRESSIVE
- One guy rides his bike on a freeway.
- Another does something horrible to his knee after bring to jump his bike off 3-5 stairs.
- They also smoke copious amounts of PBR, and smoke constantly. I'm cool, right?
- Did I mention riding on the freeway already? It's pretty cool, so far this is the second scene. SO COOL
- NO BRAKES. NO HELMET. NO SAFETY CONCERNS.
- Guys, 650cc wheel guy is here. To save the day. And do barspins.
- "Are we fixed gears" "Yeah, we're all BRAKELESS fixed gears" "Ah ****, man" "Yeah, we don't take no shortcuts"
- That guy just did a skid so sw8 that his tire blew off some smoke.
- It just happened again.
- What are these weird bends on my bars? Should I be using them, or just clenching the flat part near the stem?
- Hills, man, why!
- "Spinning spokes and telling jokes with good folks, thats how we do it"
- The Pabst is here.
- 650cc wheel guy is back again, just with a different bike - don't worry, it's still got his 'signature' front wheel. I think he's the star.
- 650cc guy is dead.
- Not really. He is alive and well.
- "We will be cutting lights, we will be bonking traffic"
- Wolfpack hustle requires helmets I think, lol
- "We're gonna try to keep it safe but keep it dangerous at the same time"
- Somehow they got a helicopter.
- "We were making a bunch of cars stop, but it was good"
- They just buried some poor kids bike at the beach. Great idea, or greatest idea?
- "Yo I've never been on a track, that'd be sweet" -650cc Wheel Guy
- I can't tell if they actually just broke into the velodrome. I think not.
- Definitely not.
- Flipping off cameras is the coolest. I am so cool.
- ITS OVER. THANK BASED GOD.

Watch it.

But not really.

Really though, don't.

I'm serious this time, really, I mean it.

Please?

ha I watched it. there's some decent scenes, but it's mostly what you typed -- and I think they had one rider with 'cred' from the old macaframa video. I seem to remember him looking at everyone like they're ********.

Today, me and the mrs went to crazee burger for dinner and we split a kangaroo & an ostrich burger between the both of us. It was interestingly good; the only problem now is that I have a great urge to find out how other animals would taste like grilled up.

I've had a fair amount of ostrich, never had the 'roo tho!

Other favorite meats of mine: deer, elk, bison, goat, rabbit.

If you've never eaten alligator it's something you've got to try.

Also--wild boar. If you always thought bacon was as good as food gets, just wait until you eat wild boar bacon.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot crawfish.

Crawfish genocide by Hank0604, on Flickr

This weekend is Shreveport's annual Mudbug Madness festival, which may be one of my favorite weekends every year. I had crawfish tacos for the first time last night, pretty good. Also, lots of good jazz and zydeco music. And cheap, cold beer.

Today I just lined up about 120 hours of work for the summer. Quite a bit of manual labor up near Redding, Ca, at $12 an hour. Good/bad thing is that I won't be home for a month, no bikes/sqrl. It is also regularly 110F, so it's gonna get toasty. It's also in the goddam boonies, so no cell reception/technology.

So I may not be on BF lol. OH NO.

Are you that desperate? $12/ hr isn't that much especially considering that job description...

Oh lol, my bad, It also includes fishing and hunting for a month, lol. Its like a mini-vacation-thing-kinda-not-really-but-it-is.
Plus, I like manual labor. If I wasn't in the science field, I'd be a ditch digger.

Its also $4 more than minimum wage an hour, for a minimum wage job. Which is really the best I can do, because I wouldn't be able to get anything that paid higher with no job experience. I might be able to get an unpaid internship, but meh, next year.

got groceries, mowed the lawn....

...then got down to the serious business of thoroughly cleaning the 722 and my commuter CX. now they are beautiful.

cassette on the CX looks like it just came out of the box.

so worth it.
