Looking for a long-lever flat bar brake lever with either 23.8 or 26.0mm clamp diameter. Cross levers and BMX style won't do the trick -- levers too short.

Buddy wants a lever to replace some POS thing he filed out to fit his track drops.

I can't dig anything up -- know anything that might work?

DP18s are decent for the money but they're heavy (687g claimed but it's probably higher).

In all honesty, unless you're getting a screaming deal on a complete wheelset I think you should spend a few extra bucks and get Velocity rims. Deep Vs weigh in at 520g and Fusions are only 475g (actual weight on my shop scale) if you still want that deep look.

Rebuilding a wheel using the original rear hub from the bike (original was run-over by the previous owner). Front is a mildly deep black heavy thing. I thought it'd look good with red in the back.

I don't mind weight, really. But I may end up splurging on Velocity anyway.

Thanks!

Any regular length V-brake or Canti levers will be the best you will be able to do with it.

looking to have a front wheel laced w/ a kinlin xr270 to novatec a165sbt -- am i able to radial lace on this hub? 24h setup

i used the spoke length calculator, not sure if i have all the measurements correct. does this look about right?

Scrodzilla 11-14-12 11:40 PM

Novatec high-flange track hubs can be radial laced without any issues. Your calculations look good to me and in my experience, that spoke calculator is very reliable.

would the usage of alloy nipples on alloy rims be worth the risk of them seizing on an all weather/cx bike just because i want them to be red?

We go there pretty regularly. I didn't put that sticker there, though.

You'll most likely be fine if you keep your bike relatively clean. If your bike will be getting wet/dirty for long periods of time without being cleaned, it also helps to put a drop of light oil (like Tri-Flow) where the nipples meet the rim every now and then.

Alright... damn google and it's lies.

hamfoh 11-15-12 05:01 PM

scrod my BK is marked "56" on the bottom bracket but measures 58 c-c. Do I call this a 58 or a 56? the guy before me called it a 58

Scrodzilla 11-15-12 05:09 PM

I have no idea. The 56cm BKs I currently have at the shop all measure 56cm center to center.

If your top tube is 57.5cm, you've got yourself a 58.

hamfoh 11-15-12 05:17 PM

58 it is. thanks

asdff 11-16-12 02:48 PM

looking for opinions, don't want to clutter with new thread:

kinlin with machined sidewall to silver hub: lace with silver spokes or black? nipple will be same color as spokes.

Scrodzilla 11-16-12 03:38 PM

It really depends on how the rest of the bike will be built up but I'm leaning toward silver spokes.

yonderb0y 11-16-12 05:10 PM

Which is the more fun ride - the 722TS or the Gara? Which sees more of your time?

And how big of a difference is there with the mass-produced Gara vs the custom?

That's what I've been thinking as well... something about silver spokes that just looks more...classy? White frame, black components, not much silver/chrome except for the chainring. Still, I'm thinking the silver spokes will be a nice breakaway from the all black and white scheme.

All bikes are fun to ride. My BK gets the most use around town.

I've never ridden the mass-produced model but there's a definite difference in weight due to the different grades of aluminum used. My Gara feels much more like a nice steel frame than aluminum.

YoEdgar 11-17-12 12:50 PM

Hey scrod

which would you choose?
mavic cxp 22 vs h+son tb14 vs alex at4000/novatecs (found on your site). First 2 would be laced to formula hubs. I want something lighter then my eighth inch julians but dont have the funds to buy a custom built wheel set right now due to me moving out of state in a couple of weeks.

buddy offered me almost what I paid for my julians so I was gonna take that cash and buy a wheel set with it.

Scrodzilla 11-17-12 01:14 PM

They're all decent wheelsets. I've been nothing but happy with my TB14s (and H+Son rims in general).

The lightest of the three are the Alex/Novatecs.

Scrod, et al.:

A while back someone posted an image and a link to a blog with a story of a rider who came in complaining of his bars becoming flexier as time went on. The image was of the bars once the tape had been removed showing nearly half of the bar had been eroded away from the rider's sweat on the trainer at home.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Got a link?

Thanks,
-Dan.

Wendell F 11-18-12 03:37 PM

Scrod -

Do you ever ride geared bikes?

I remember reading something about that somewhere. Quick search turns up this:

Holy ****.

hairnet 11-18-12 08:29 PM

And that is why I hate indoor exercising. Too much sweat dripping everywhere without evaporating.

Egad.

I tried all kinds of search terms. In the name of science, what did you search with?

az_andrew 11-18-12 09:15 PM

Can you recommend a good 68x110 Bottom Bracket? (IRD Defiant crank going on a Cinelli Gazzetta)
