Average heart rate

What is your average heart rate over a 40-45 mile ride at a moderate average speed of 18-20 mph on a rolling road course? I just want to compare my with others. Thanks

Bikes: Junk, that is why I am here. :-)

That would probably depend upon the age of the person the "rolling" hills, etc....

My last 40 mile ride outside was an average of 126. I am an overweight, 45 year old if that makes any difference to you at all.

The answers you get to this will be meaningless, unless given in terms of % of MHR or better yet % of LT threshold.

This is a nonsensical question.

First, speed and terrain do not affect heart rate, effort does

Second, and more importantly, everybody has different heart rates, and a "high" rate for one may be a "low" rate for another.

Edit: Here is a ride from the other day... was taking it pretty casual, so it wasn't very "fast"

Entire workout (181 watts):
Duration: 2:10:35 (2:39:37)
Work: 1411 kJ

Pa:HR: -23.19%

Min Max Avg

Looking back at my Sunday group ride stats, I average 88% of LT over hilly courses of approximately 60 miles at this season. I do not ride these at a "moderate average speed." I ride them as hard as I can. A moderate ride would be at an 80% of LT average HR.

For what you describe - it could be anywhere from 95 to 130.

The unfortunate truth - cycling conditions vary so widely that comparable HR data is worthless.

However, compiling years and years of your own training data can become one of the most valuable training tools to date. The more you know, the more accurately you can plan your training.

Depends on ride as umd stated. I can't give info like him but can give avg. HR. On a recovery ride I try to keep an average between 120-135 but have a hard time doing this. On long rides, what I consider anything over 100km at or around a 25km/h average my HR will be between 140-150 average. On shorter rides and doing hard training I'll keep it around 160. All these have variables to like, riding with group and which group it is. One group I may be around 120 the whole ride others 160 for as long as I can manage. Perspective I'm 38 overwieght, 6'1" 218lbs, I don't race but ride with those who do and like to train hard. I'm not kidding anyone, in a race they would kill me as soon as we hit the big hills but I'm getting lighter and faster.

Here's today... this is a pretty close fit to the OP's parameters

umd, on that second ride, your average HR is substantially higher, yet your average power is slightly lower... Looks very strange to me!

I've been riding with a power meter for the past couple of months, and my power-to-HR relationship is almost perfect every time.

The second ride was a race and was at elevation.

Ah yes, elevation. Something we don't have to think about here. I'd have a hard time getting up to more than 600-700 ft asl in my area.

More data. Although completely pointless it's still fun. This was a little further and not as much climbing.

Todays' ride was only 38 miles. Pretty flat.. when walking about I notice my HR to be about 95. When riding at about a 17 mph average, it tends to be about 120. The few moderate hills we climbed it went to no higher than 140. Recovery rate was in like one minute before it returned to 95 plus.
