I've been riding a fixed for a few years, I would suggest a flip-flop wheel so you can do either. Would also put front and a rear brake on. I use a 40/17 and I ride some pretty hilly stuff.

Big climb right out of town and miles of rollers the rest of the way, wind and possible rain are the biggest obstacles. Done this ride 3 times and as hard rides go I'd give her a 5 on a 10 scale.

I ride my fixed and leave my geared bike for the road, riding fixed on rollers is a lot easier, maybe the fact that the spin tends to be more circular. If you have a fix give it a try.

Got rid of my trainer years ago, jumped on a set of rollers and haven't looked back since. Nothing can take the place of "real" riding but rollers do offer a challenge to indoor riding.

Used to do the SF century every year when I lived in NM, big steep climb after about 20 miles and seemed to me it was something like 18%. Tough but well supported ride, best done while in good form.

Bought a set of rollers last year and ditched the trainer, best thing for me to do. Rollers make you concentrate and make you work on form as well plus the amount of sweat seems to be about the same.

I also use the Neuvation wheels and I think what you need is a Morningstar Bearing buddy tool to lube the cassette hub. Do a search on google for Morningstar and that should fix you up. :)
