Got caught in the heaviest rain I've experiences in quite some time. Cold, too. Did somebody turn the clock back two months, b/c it definitely feels like it today. Not that I'm complaining. I actually enjoy it like this, but very unseasonal.
I didn't get out of the house until almost 9 AM, so I know I was a half hour later than I usually am and that makes a big difference, but I saw a grand total of ONE other cyclist going either direction the entire 7 miles in to DC. So much for Bike to Work week. (Although in fairness, casual cyclists wanting to give it a try this week will be waiting for a better weather day.)

50F, sprinkly; didn't feel beat but not nearly as zippy as yesterday
Oh yeah, on this one remote college campus road I take, came up on a minivan stopped in the center of the road. In addition to other causes for that sort of thing (pedestrians, baby ducks) I also looked to see if there was a cougar about to pounce (been some sightings recently). Negative all around, so I passed on his left (from behind him). Right then he started going, and moving toward me. I guess he decided we were in line and he wasn't yielding. But anyway I was going 20mph, way faster than him (and yet not nearly as fast as 'traffic' usually is on that road), so I just kept going and he continued putting up the left side of the road until I was gone.
Anyway, no event, just an odd interaction.

It was a nice ride in to work this morning. Nothing event full, as always at 4:20 in the morning. The ride home was nice. People acctually moved into the next lane and let me have the right lane to myself. I got a lot of smiles today. When I turned onto the bike path under the highway I passed a pile of doggy dodo, and a lady pushing a stroler with only her purse in it......strange. I just hate it when people don't pick up after their dogs. The rest of the ride home was verry nice, the weather is soooooooo beautifull. It is supposed to storm tonight on into tomorow. I hope there will be a break for me to make it to work. I now have a new motovation for riding to work...... If I drive I get asked "can you take me home please?" Sometimes I am too nice for my own good. It is hard to say no to someone in need. I have been trying to convince him to get a bike, he lives only 5 miles from work. Anyways...I guess I am little miss chatty today. It was a lovly day, I hope you all have a wonderfull day as well.
PS: I heard a funny catch phrase yesterday...."The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese." When I first heard that one I busted up in laughter.
ok...See ya tomorow!!!

I changed jobs this year and my company is 23 km instead of 65 away from home. First commute of the year today. 46 km in the sun. Wicked! Would like to make this a healthy habit.

Another awesome ride in on the Ueda trail. It's almost like having my own private highway to work.
It's an extra 4 miles on my 9 mile ride, but it's Bike Month so I enjoy the extra miles.

The heat must be making people crazy...
Was making a left turn from the left turning lane and when the green arrow started flashing I proceeded to make my left turn and point myself towards home.
At the next light a lady in a white Saturn with a smashed up front end starts yelling at me saying that the turn signal was for cars, not bikes, and that I was slowing her down and she could have gotten a red light ticket.
I replied "THIS IS A VEHICLE" and I have the same rights to the road as you do.
She says... "ooooh really?"
I told her to check the traffic laws and then the light turned green.
And wouldn't you know it... when she finally caught up to me 10 blocks later she was still beaking off about bikes not belonging on the road.

It's nice, isn't it? I discovered it when I was looking for a route to my folks' house in Wheatland. The trail becomes the levee road and takes you all the way to Rio Oso.

But it's completely unshaded so I doubt I'll be using it much this summer.
I would have never tried it if it wasn't for Bike Month. It probably will never be my main route but it'll be great for fall and spring for the "long way" home.

Managed to break my first spoke in 20+ years. I guess it broke on the way in this morning and i didn't notice the tire wobble. I did hit a bump sort of hard. Cheap replacement wheel I picked up at a REI garage sale...actually not horrible..Deore Hub with a Weiennamn (sp) rim. I have been intending to replace for over a year but haven't.
I noticed the bike drag when I was getting it out of the lobby of my office. Thought I had misaligned the canti's when I put my bungee back on the bike. Spun the wheel and saw it. Took it easy on the 4.7 mile ride to the bike shop for a spoke and then home keeping my fingers crossed it wouldnt fold up with my fat self on it. Thirty minutes had it fixed and trued back up and ready to go.
Despite the spoke it was still a nice ride in really nice weather.

Today was my first time riding in cycling shorts. Holy crap do they make a difference. It was cold in the morning but at least it didn't rain until after I got to work. It was beautiful and sunny on the way back. Oh Seattle, you of the fickle weather.

It was an easy ride in and no rain, first day without rain. The temps are about the same around 8 C (47 F). Today should be the begininng of a rise in the
afternoon temps, as yesterday afternoon was somewhat raw with chilly temps and rain. It is amusing that in the dead of winter, we would kill for for temps in the 40s F, but now that we have had a taste warmth, we want it all the time.
Yesterday, the lady who organizes the Bike-to-Work day for central Maryland called into a local radio station to promote the event on friday. When she hung up the raidio guy said it was a good idea, then went on to say remember to wear helmets and obey traffic laws, "as this is one group that does not do that." I wish there was a whole group of people riding every day; I just find the comment interesting.

The weather isn't cooperating much for Bike to Work Week in Raleigh, NC. This is third straight day it has rained this week, after 3 months of very dry weather here. Never mind, I've been able to ride 2 of the 3 days so far since the rain came very early in the morning and stopped by the time I left for work. Roads were still very wet, though, and fenders sure are nice in these conditions. My commuting times have dropped a few minutes lately, I presume due to the warmer weather and less wind. That's nice.

Low 50sF and overcast, with a light tailwind. I was pretty zippy. Passed a couple of people. Something came onto the MUP behind me but I dropped it. Also saw some riders going the other way. It's "alternative commuting" week here, too. More people out riding.
I think today I shall take the scenic route home through fields/woods/etc.

I felt funny on my Brompton after yesterday's commute on a fully-loaded cargo bike that rides like a truck. The ride felt twitchy for the first mile or two, until my body got used to my little bike again. Had to stop and adjust a rubbing fender; was annoyed by a persistent clicking sound coming from the drivetrain somewhere (still can't figure that one out). Other than that, it was an uneventful ride. Overcast, pleasant, low 50s, gentle breeze.

Just had my bars re-wrapped and rr. hub adjusted also, replaced tubes and tires last night. I had so many flats recently that I went back to Conti Tour Rides, 700x28's compared with the road tires I've been using since March. Man, the weight and handling penalty is severe with these tires. They are heavy, squishy and, fold easily on turn in-the bike feels like a tank once again. Oh well, I can deal if it cuts down on all the flatting. I will also replace my worn brake hoods this week. Next is the jockey pullies in the rr. deraileur (or, maybe a whole new der.).
Other than that, it was wonderful to be back on the bike. The whole family got a stomach virus last weekend and spent the weekend puking and (other). I couldn't keep anything down, even water, and as such was dehydrated and way behind on calories so, I spent Monday at home and took Metro yesterday. I'm catching up today and should be back to normal soon. Looking forward to the ride home-no matter what the weather :-)

I now carry the laws with me in my messenger bag. Mostly for the cops.

My commute included a conversation with the train conductor that is on the 7:06 every day. I had left my wallet w/monthly pass home (had driven in the downpours since my son wasn't going on the kiddie seat in an epic downpour. It always messes me up when I switch to car mode-- nothing is in place the next day.)
The conductor said that he had "never seen me before in his life." I told him that I was the folding bike guy and he relented.

50F and gray. Usual MUP closed for 'cleaning' so had to go up a long steep hill. Talked my daughter into trail-a-bike rather than trailer in the hopes she would help out, but she burned herself out zooming to and from her brother's school. Not much left by the time the hill-climbing started.

I like these updates. There's always something a little more interesting going on in bike commutes.
I usually do a 1.7 mile bike ride to the train station, then 26 miles on the train, then 0.6 or so walk or shuttle bus. Takes about an hour. Today, I decided to take a longer way in to work. I drove to Libertyville about 10 miles, and rode in the rest of the way, about 16 miles. Took the north shore bike path that mostly parallels US 41. I had to park in a bank parking lot in Libertyville, and I think I might get towed or a ticket. But there is no place to park in that godforsaken town for more than 4 hours. Next time, I'll try a town further north that isn't so hoity-toity.
I have never felt so good at work in the morning. I averaged 14 mph, which is 2 faster than my usual rides, and managed to finally crack 30 mph on the TriCross on one nice hill. (I was going only 5 mph up the other side, hehehe)
I can deal with a $15 parking ticket, but I hope they don't tow me, as that costs $150 and they mess cars up.
Beautiful day. It was 45°F when I left the house at 6:20 and over 60°F when I arrived at 8:50. I'm looking forward to the ride home, even if it is late.
Forgot my belt, so I look like kind of a rube here.

I don't usually get to post on this thread due to not having a commute. However, today is my gf's bday and my last day in Vancouver. I rode with her to school.
Nice somewhat cool morning and a somewhat heavily trafficked street she rides on. Still a fun ride.

I did not get to ride today. The thunderstorm was too close for me to confidantly make it before it came. I am glad too because a bolt of lightning hit the flag pole to the hotel I work at. Nothing was dammaged, just cool sound of thunder. I am going to ride around my neighborhood for about 4 or 5 miles, while there is a break in the storms. They are going to start up again this after noon. Have a great day!!!
