Wow, sounds painful.

Reflective tape won't fall off and litter the tech XC trails you mentioned.

Bikes: old school Giant Attraction MTB (where it all started),old school Schwinn High Plains MTB (XC and long ride duty), Mosh DJ3 (BMX basher), and Trek Bruiser 1 (freeride and full of mods and still growing)

My bike as of today, after a good cleaning after a monstrously muddy ride along with some sand. New stickers along with the removal of the "Sette 7" stickers. The best addition is the two heartagrams representing, essentially, love and hate which i think we all know goes with this sport and also representing, IMHO, one of the best bands in recent times; HIM. Just thought i'd share my bike as of recently.

This is my MTB and it's components

Btw, I need the reflectors because I ride at night in the neighborhood.

-Shimano Front Derailleur Co5o
-Shimano V-Brake housing and cables
-WTB wheels
-MYTHOSXC Tires
-TRUVATIV Crank
-Forte' pedals
-Alivio Shimano Rear Derailleur
-Shimano Front Derailleur Co5o
-Front Suspension * Manitou Six, convertible travel 100 suspension

It appears that I have Shimano V-Brake housing and cables..... that then attach to some Hayes Disk Brakes.

These brakes stop the all durable WTB wheels. Apparently, this brand makes wheels that are "premium yet affordable --- and designed for XC racing and aggressive trail riding."

I have MYTHOSXC Tires (mythosxc). I search on the web and apparently these are cool.

TRUVATIV Crank -- apparently they also have a website.... I'm reading that some of these components are placed on downhill bikes.

I have some Forte' pedals with pedal cages, all of which I added myself.

Alivio Shimano Rear Derailleur -- this website below gives a review of this one... 3.5/5 rating....

https://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Deraill...uct_20844.shtml

If I'm correct I have this for a front derailleur -- Shimano Front Derailleur Co5o.

Manitou Six, convertible travel 100 suspension, came with the bike as the forks. A website mentions that they are for the "entry-level rider who doesn’t want to sacrifice performance. Key features include 28.6 mm stanchions, convertible travel from 80 mm to 100 mm and a new Reverse Arch casting."

Edward if you need reflectors check on getting some reflective tape. It will be much more reliable. There is a good chance of breaking the regular reflectors out on the trail which results in trash on the trail and a possible flat by a rider coming by later on.

Blazinall: I see you're having the same problem with your fork as I had with mine; the rubber dust guards slide up the stanchions, right? Well, two weeks ago I went and bought two zip ties, and I simply ziptied the rubber guard in place, works like a charm, I suggest you try it.

I'd actually just cut off the rubber guards, they generally seem to trap more crap than they keep out.

Yeah exactly, I found that riding through sand and riding through mud a lot of muck got trapped underneith the rubber guards. Thats why i've had them pushed up to the top of the stanchions since the third week i've owned the bike. It never dawned on me to cut them off. They are now cut off, and i have to say it's asthetically more pleasing.

I generally suggest doing it this way.

For the frame I prefer to use a tape color that matches (as close as possible) the frame (for the side view at least) for a daytime "stealth effect.
Like this:

I'm almost required to say that red reflective tape should still be used in the rear and it probably would be good to use a bit of white up front as well as some local authority types still insist on the white in front / red in back reflector rule. I don't sweat this too much as the black tape I'm switching to (after the blasted roof is done) reflects as white, however I intend to keep the red tape in back if only to keep the local constabulary happy.

Keep in mind that reflectors are NOT a substitute for lights and should never be solely relied upon.

Read this for even more info: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/reflectors.html

I wonder what the practical folks in Germany were thinking when they designed integrated rack mounting points into the roof of their sports cars?

Heaven forbid that it get driven on dirt roads to get to great riding...
