Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

they are incredibly fun. Much less a race than a communal asskicking. Everyone helps each other. They are incredibly dumb, but there is something really fun about getting dirty, jumping over flames and climbing over things all while being timed.

A growing club!

The only complaint I have about mine is it is quite large. It doesn't fit comfortably under a long sleeve dress shirt. I find loosening it and sliding it further up my forearm and away from the cuff helps though.

What's a long sleeve dress shirt?

It's what some of us who haven't been around long enough to retire have to wear.

Interesting club ride today. There are LOTS of road closures this week due to repaving and bridge repair. It feels like they postponed all the road projects and now are doing them at once to be done in time for school (which starts next week). Some of the closures we got around, but others required detours/rerouting. Plus one flat made our return a bit late. The beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery made up for it. Still 100% fun.

Glad to hear mr Trainsnorter is healing well. Once the patch is down to 12 mcg/hr for a couple days you can probably stop it altogether.

My employer went "business casual" in September of '96. I am a professional in an office environment and wear a long sleeve dress shirt, tie and jacket out of necessity (as opposed to choice) less than once/month. Probably more like once every other month on average.

Honestly I don't like casual Friday. I feel obliged to wear jeans and I almost never wear jeans otherwise. Dress pants are more comfortable. Then I have to go out and buy some stupid business casual shirts that look okay with jeans. So, now my closet/dresser has my regular work clothes, my weekend clothes, and crap I wear to work on Friday.

I believe you can open them (txc files) in excel ( as an XML table and have it create a schema) and copy the columns out and plot the data.

Look for ns1:Value4 I think that is heart rate. The issue will be making sure the time stamps are the same, but plot them anyway and see. Plot ns1:Value4 against StartTime.

Business casual all the time here too with "dress down Friday". I just wear the same business casual type clothes each day unless there is a reason to dress a little nicer. I have only worn jeans to work on weekends.

At the beginning of the summer I noticed a significant slow down on the bike. Very sluggish. About 2-3 mph slower than my normal averages for various routes from about 16 mph down to 14. I blamed it on the onset of the extended viral infection I had in June, but I thought I would return to normal after recovering from that. I didn't have a chance to test the theory for the six weeks I was at Lake Tahoe (no more riding in the mountains for me). Now that I am home, I am still slow. It really feels like a heat and humidity thing, but that would be new to me. I am riding during the coolest part of the day (low to mid-80s, but high humidity of course) though it is still plenty nasty. I certainly rode a lot stronger in even worse weather in the past. So it seems that I won't be able to see what's up until the summer weather starts to break here around mid-October.

Could such a significant change in my heat tolerance have occurred in just one year?

We can't wear jeans unless we are going out into the field. In the past, HR has felt compelled to send out a reminders to people that things like jeans, stretch pants, sweat pants and t-shirts are not "business casual" in response to some people "pushing the envelope."

If I'm not wearing jeans on Friday I have people asking what I'm so dressed up for.

I work for a pretty small company and roles can shift from field visits to working in the shop to doing CAD work, so it's basically 100% jeans time for me. And unless we have visitors or I'm going to a customer site, I'm more likely to be wearing a bike shop shirt rather than a company shirt. So my wardrobe has basically been unchanged since engineering school.

That's insanity.

I work in an office environment, but we're a tech place... so right now I'm wearing shorts (although they put in a rule about long pants required last year... but it's freaking hot texas, screw that) and a long sleeve dress shirt with sleeves rolled up over an undershirt. But that's more related to things that we can't talk about here. There are plenty of people here in T shirts.

Optionally, we have uniforms, but that's mostly for the factory guys so they don't have to deal with extra laundry burden related to the job. I think one office guy wears them, but that's because he's single and doesn't want to do his own laundry.

If they make me come in weekends, flip flops are mandatory, just cause I know the bosses hate them.

If we have visiting dignitaries, etc who we think would care, we'll dress up, but even then, not full suits.
