Btw ... did you and/or Mr. H race boats? Can't recall if you've mentioned. Just curious; I was a serious and successful competitor (only sport I was ever any good at) in my otherwise misspent youth.

Nope. We are chill cruiser types.

For you cyclists, cruising is the touring of the boating world.

Got myself a KOM today. I don't think that the fact that it was on a group ride and that I didn't take a single pull on that section take anything away from my achievemnt.

No idea what that was/is. Had a look ... No.

I ask because it's admitting new words without going through the proper coinage process, methinks.

'Covfefe' OK for Words With Friends

You should do one of those petitions of academics demanding that covfefe not be granted word status.

Before I was a cyclist, my husband & I were sailors. We have a sailboat that we use to take weekend trips, mostly to Catalina Island, which is around 30 miles from our home port of Marina Del Rey. I specifically bought the mountain bike to ride on Catalina, because I found that I didn't want to go off on sail trips any more, the part of the island we go to had no paved roads. Now order has been restored to our world, the sail trips are back on because I can roam all over the island on the mountain bike.

In the 1920s, a western was filmed on the island and buffalo were brought over for the movie and then abandonded. Now the herd is managed but it's existence is a little controversial because it's a non-native animal and the ecosystem is fragile, there's very little water on the island. But the buffalo are somewhat iconic now, so the herd persists.

You rarely see buffalo when you visit one of the two towns on the island, they occasionally wander close to town. But now that I ride into the interior, I see them all the time. It's still cool to me.

The other A list animal is the Catalina Island fox. It's around the size of a housecat and they are coming back from the verge of extinction. It used to be rare to see them but now I see them maybe 50% of the time I ride. The kits were being killed by Golden eagles, they are non-native and had to be displaced for the foxes to have a chance. I believe they are getting rid of the Golden eagles and replacing them with native Bald eagles (I guess they don't bother the fox?).

Anyway, if you like long climbing rides with few signs of civilization, Catalina Island can't be beat.

Thanks, interesting story and background, beautiful btw:thumb:

I'm odd, kids and wife went to Culver's tonight, didn't even ask me to go....I wouldn't have minded a custard:mad:

LAJ 06-01-17 10:06 PM

We have a Culver's down the street, but LAJ's resolve remains strong. Custard? Curds? WTF?

LAJ 06-01-17 10:10 PM

We raced at the fairgrounds in West Allis, in the Badgerland 100. It was hot and humid, and I was happy there was a shower in the infield. Getting racing fuel dumped on me was pretty bad, but at least I got the L/R wheel on before that happened. Not sure if the brakes were hot enough to ignite, but I was happy not to find out.

Might have to go check out these guys and their manly beers tomorrow. Holy moly, them's some strong beers.

9) Nefarious Dark Belgian Quad (ABV= 9.2/IBUs= 32)
A little darker and a little more raisins and more dark malts. This blend of European malts combines to form a rich but smooth dark ale fermented with Belgian Yeast.

10) Czech Your Mind Imperial Pilsner * (ABV= 9.2 / IBUs= 28)
Dominated by Pilsner malt w/ a dash of Vienna, & enough IBU’s to balance it out and keep it in the Pilsner theme. Brewed for maximum fermentablility to keep it from being sweet.

11) N’erotic Belgian Strong Ale (ABV= 10.2 / IBUs= 28)
Our Belgian ale from the trippel family. Smooth, malty and higher alcohol than you’d think when you drink it.

12) Erin Go Bock (Aged) * (ABV= 7.5/ IBUs= 28)
Brewed with British Specialty malts, Continental base malt & Tettnang hops, plus some Special B malt. We bring you this cross between an Irish Red & traditional Bock. Nice and caramelly, but clean.

13) Satan’s Gut Imperial Stout (ABV= 8.0/ IBUs= 60.123)
Brewed with Smoke malts as such: Beechwood, Cheery & Beechwood malts. We then added some roasted Poblano, Jalapeno, Fresno and Ancho peppers.

14) Kaiserlich Dunkleweiss (ABV= 7.0 / IBUs= 22)
A dark wheat beer with lots of flavor and 7% alcohol. This beer lives up to its name Kaiserlich, German for Imperial.

15) Hanging Belay Imperial IPA ( ABV= 9.0 / IBUs=101)
With a malt bill featuring light crystal malts, a hint of Honey, and Chocolate malts, this IPA is highlighted by Simcoe and Cascade hops.

There's an NDA on the new Ultegra R8000 group until June 8th, so they'll update those pics then.

If they're anything like the 30-year-old JD riding mowers I used to mow the lawn growing up (with a cinderblock on my lap to bypass the weight sensor... ah the '80s), it'll go another 20 years if you pretend to take care of it.

Eff no. It's a fun game, but leaves me scratching my head a lot. For example, it disallowed "giveth", but allows many words that are more archaic and less English.

PepeM 06-02-17 05:03 AM

I actually look forward to this Hammer Series thing. Live on GCN's Youtube channel in two hours, for anyone interested.
