Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sydney traffic sucks. It was a small citreon berlingo, all the sides had signwriting so I couldn't see his head or anything.

Be careful folks.

Had a couple of those myself. Not fun.

Bikes: Thylacines...only Thylacines.

Sorry to hear that, was-bmxer. Last time I got car-doored it was an MX5. Thankfully he had his window winded down or I would've got a face full of glass. Instead I ended up going over the door, doing a full twist and slid on my back down Chruch St Richmond watching the oncoming traffic coming towards me!

Never got up so quick in my life!!

Anyway, here's to a quick healing.

The guy who owns the Arete Ti that I showed yas last week go whacked by a courier. That's how he got the cash for his new bike. Reckons the pain and suffering was well worth it!!!

Stoopid drivers.

A misfortunate incident however I'm glad you got away with no broken bones. I always signal drivers behind me that I'm moving onto the road when there's parked cars, especially down hills so I avoid a heavy impact. I was fortunate to miss a few swinging doors and had a friend go flying over one once.

I'd like to report another negative for the Sydney cycling community. The pass from Hunters Hill Tarban Creek bridge that splits from Gladesville into LaneCove. Well the pass from the Tarban Creek bridge onto the 1 way loop that goes under the Gladesville brdige. There's a rocky track that heads up to the Gladesville Bridge footpath accommodating cyclists has been blocked off but a new welded metal fence joining the two that used to allow a rocky walkway up onto the Bridge. I used to walk my bike up that walkway, past the bushes and straight up onto the Gladesville Bridge. Now you have to cycling into the right side of the 1 way road past all the fence and do a bit more of a climb to get to the same location.

thanks guys, site has been crappy so I have not bothered posting.

Insurance called, they want a quote from bike shop for repair/replacment cost, asked me for estimate. I told them 9-10k, it was custom made, etc.

I hope I get a payout, bought a new frame a few weeks back, not received it yet. Shoulder hurts.

Looked at the rusty old indoor trainer just before in the garage whilst checking the damage to my orbea, think I'll give it few days yet, maybe re-watch some old dvd's first.

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Everything in Australia is in short supply, so your LBS can charge what they please.

I don't know about that. It's an extremely high end product in surprising high demand. And my LBS actually charge pretty okay.

I don't think I've met anyone who's had to wait any serious period of time for anything (unless you're after a custom). I'm sure some parts of the US probably have a Record glut but then we've got a population of 20 million vs your 298.4 million. BIG difference.

The supply part was sarcasm. But I've worked at a bike shop in Australia, and I've got a US dealer catalog. Aussies get robbed, no question.

did you sort this out? I adjust my rear derailleur to be teeny weenyley on the 'slow' side to reduce the chance of gear jumping under load.

What frame did you get, was-bmxer?

Hey, I have absolutely no sympathy for anyo ne who whinges about pricing and availability here. Between us, Patty and I can get almost anything way cheaper than even WHOLESALE pricing here. The only thing stopping you guys cashing in on the savings is a bit of organisation and a bit of faith.

I can have a complete '06 Record group on my doorstep in 10 days for about the same price as you'd pay for the cranks alone over the counter.

Anyway, if anyone wants the hookup for the goodies, you know where to find me.

True, but you have to look at the reason WHY.

When you buy anything in this country, never mind bikes:

1. Costello takes a huge cut.
2. NSW govt takes a another cut.
3. GST.

You can't win. GST was meant to get rid of all the other "taxes". This hasn't happened.

Bikes: 2006 Trek 5200, Avanti Corsa Pro, Giant Yukon, Ricardo Cro-Mo, 1992 Mongoose pro-comp, 1980 DiamondBack senior pro, 1980 Quicksilver... half a dozen other BMX bikes in various stages of completion.

Thanks Oz, nah, not yet. Since I stuffed my bike comp yesterday, I've been trying to sort that out.
Jumping one gear, I've usually been able to adjust it out (doing like you said) but I was in 53/17 when I jumped on Satdy and the POS went to 15 then straight to 14... lucky the bloke on my wheel didn't run into me. Never jumped 2 cogs before.

I'll clean everything down and set it up again. See what happens, but I think the frame might have something to do with it.

It was never going to happen. Only have to look at the history of the writing of the constitution to see it coming.

it went into paying for the olympics, which ironicly we are still paying for.... i know that the olympics was the straw that broke the camels back as far as rail infrastructure went, its all been downhill from there...

The LBS down the road sells Specialized. I'll get a price from them this weekend. I've got to get some new contacts here for goods.

I've never actually seen a price over here for one. I'd say I'd have a cardiac if I ever did.

I'm hoping now Paddies back home with the mob, he'll be able to get one off the back of a truck (or at least substantially cheaper).
