yeah, I had a spare brake cable, and installed it on the front. The old one was fine.
I guess the rear derailleur cable gets the most use, and the constant bending and straightening in the mechanism weakens it, where brake cables are pulled straight in the lever.
I think I'll go with an annual replacement policy now

The wife's off to the USA next weekend and the kids are off to the in-laws. YEHAW!
Anyhow, the wife's feeling a bit guilty for leaving me here while she goes off for work and the subject of "what can I get you when I'm in the State" came up last night. My first idea was a new set of cool wheels...bubow, she ain't prepared to drag wheels back. I've got all the riding gear I need so they'res nothing I need there. So I'm thinking a new set of pedals might be just the ticket. Yehay, she says I have a budget of $350. So I have Shimano riding shoes and was thinking of getting some LOOK pedals.
My first question is, are LOOK pedals compatible with Shimano shoes? My second questions is, are there any recommendations for pedals I should be using (other than LOOK) that will fit in my budget?

I think wattsy has the shoes, he wants flash pedals now. Go for some LOOK Keo Ti jobbies. Your Missus could buy them online and get them shipped to her hotel.
Shimano's road pedals all fit the same three hole mounting pattern as LOOK and the other big brands, so you'll be sweet.

Cuzzy bro vette, bummer to hear about your stack
- glad you weren't more seriously injured.
Wattsy, I'm looking to get some Keos soon, can't afford the Ti jobbies tho, probably just the the Sport model from Probikekit I think. Got me some new shoes the other day for a bargain, ( new old stock I think) so I need some pedals to match.

EVCC RR today. Bloody disaster.
First I ended up running late leaving fer the race, not to worry, it's only an hour or so away and being a bit late means I'll only get 20-25 mins warm-up.
Traffic was **** so I ended up getting there 2 minutes after the entry cut-off. They kindly let me enter, but I only had 15 mins to find a parking spot, get me gear on, get the bike ready and show up at the start line which was 1km down the road.
Riding flat out to the start was me warm-up, just in time as they started sending the bunches out.
Must've been full of nervous energy cos I spent most of the time in the front 3 chasing down anything & everything
(I usually wait fer a bit to see if anyone else is gonna move)
It's a hilly course with one short, sharp nasty bugger just near the end of the 18km lap.
I was near the front of the bunch when we got to it so I could slide back, and when I stood to climb, I got a mouthfull of vomit... gross... had to sit and swallow to finish the climb... more gross... over the top and down to the turn-around and my guts was doing cartwheels. Made the turn, one of the others came past me and said "bloody hell, you alright?" (I must've gone pale as a sheet) so I disappeared down a side road and hurled violently.
I felt like absolute **** so chucked it in and came home.
½ hour later, I was right as rain.
Never had that happen before. Same food as I always eat before a race, kids aren't crook at the moment... buggered if I know.

did the parramatta CC RR at oakville yesterday and what a blast that was. didnt place anywhere but learnt more than i could have ever hoped for!
its a 7 K course wich is pretty much a fairly continuous but not terribly steep climb on one side a nice fast decent the same length ont he other side and a connecting road in the middle, so its kinda like a triangle. has the added bonus of a true uphill finish. add to this a field of 20+ and what a hoot.
remebering this is my 4th ever group ride and 2nd road race it was on from the get go and i pretty much managed to hang on for the 1st lap of 4 before i found myself on the wrong half of a fractured group. bridged from them up to another couple of riders who had jsut fallen off but they were too shattered to work togeather to bridge up so i went it alone again. i knew i was burning my matches but my main goal was to stay with the main group. as i got closer again the main group fragmented again across the line for the 2nd lap and i found myself with a group of 3 other guys. from here i had my 1st true experience of rotating pace lines. lots of fun! needs a bit of work though as i was surging at one end and loosing a bit of ground at the other. all good fun. 3rd lap and myself and a parramatta CC rider seperated from the other 2 up the climb but decided to wait for them at the top. when we got there he asked me if they were back on yet to whcih we both took a look the the middle and came v v v close to going down when we collided. mtb skills came into play there.... only one rider of the 2 gor back on and it was back to pacelining. i took a long 4 min + fast pull but mis timed getting back on the line and hence spent the remainder of my race looking at these 2 guys beinds. from aobut 10 meters back. i caught them again up the climb to the finish but went way too early + i was stuffed from trying to catch them and they passed me within meters of the line as i comprehensivley blew up.
great race, great track and really friendly bunch. even an old dude came up to me after and offered the friendly advice of " your seat is way too low on the bloody thing " which i have now corrected, but he could have told me before hand!
HR meter tells me it was a 52 min race, 176 avg HR, 207 (!! that has to be an error) max

Just watching the Sports show on Channel 7. Jason Kaszinski of St.Kilda was being interviewed live and then he starts slurring, then faints (fell backward on camera). They crossed back to Johanna Griggs who was just sitting there with her mouth open. She collected herself and then crossed to a break...
