Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hell ride's fast!! lot's of A graders who can be agressive so I don't recommend unless you're super fit and have LOT's of experience in packs. I suggest you park your car at Port Melbourne (Near the Spirit of Tasmania) and head south along Beach road. If you ride to Mordialloc, it's about a 60K round trip with gentle rolling hills that is generally a fun ride. There will be plenty (like hundreds, possibly thousands depending on the weather) of riders on the road ranging from guns to slugs, but generally most people are decent enough.

Thylacine, I can guarantee that due to the mysterious workings of female telepathy, you will be the recipient of a stern look from your spouse sometime in the next 7 days.

Yeah, what a gigantic handjob.

Can someone please explain to the Seppos, what is it about having and recovering from Cancer that screams 'no drugs'? I mean, did he recover due to the magical properties of Ginseng and Green Tea?

Taped the LA puff piece & watched a bit this morning. Best bit so far was seeing "der Kaiser" in the Bianchi green with the golf ball TT helmet! Go der Jan - le Tour is not the same without him

Bikes: Wilier, Alchemy, Merida MTB,

Checked out the Teschner bikes last night. They look alright, but from what the shop staff made out apparently Teschner is the only custom frame builder in Australia

The al & scandium frames are still made in Oz, but the carbon jobs are, of course, made in China at the same factory alongside a few other brands.

And yes Thylo, you can certainly tell they are the Easton distributors for Oz.....anyone know if Easton wheels are any good?

Hows this - I've just has some guy e-mail me asking what tubing he should use on his Ti bike that he's getting somone else to make.

Tell me, can you see the irony of someone not wanting to pay for good design, yet is obviously panicing about the fact that he has no confidence in the design ability of his chosen builder?

Wilchemy, I'd hardly expect Teschner to go "Well, if you don't like Aluminium, there's always Thylacine Cycles or Paconi or Overton or Perkins or or or." They're marginally cheaper than us for Al or Sc anyway, so if someone likes the look of them better I'm happy to conceed there. I don't believe in 'just being a road builder' anyway - I think every type of cycling informs the rest and makes for a better widget. 1 1/8th Aheadsets on roadbikes anyone? Everyone?

Easton just bought out Velomax and slapped their stickers on them as far as I can assertain. If you need new wheels, I can get cracking deals on Zipp and Reynolds - both of which are better IMHO - and I can also do handbuilts pretty reasonably too. Don't get sucked into the Ksyrium vortex whatever you do.

Tell him you've heard people are getting good results by duct taping bog roll tubes together.

I wish (Actually I've been in the STi the last few days.)

I have one of those ubiquitous creaking noises that often come up in BF posts. Having checked all the easy stuff, today I get to tackle the dreaded bottom bracket. Well, hubby will be doing the tackling, I'll be standing by with assorted first aid gear to attend to the inevitable injuries and making appropriate noises of encouragement.

Yeah....best part of the whole show was watching him treat World TT Champ Abraham Olano like a ragdoll in that '99 TT again. Amazing display of power.

Back to those XTR cranks for a second...in summary
T says 2006 XTR are great but use only Shimano chainrings
HD says 2006 XTR chainrings are soft as sheet
Therefore i conclude XTR cranks aint worth investing in.
FWIW, i need new chainrings for my 2003 XT drivetrain and thought at the prices Torpedo7 list the 2006 XTR cranks at I should upgarde. Hence 2007 XTR's are out of price range (and I dont like them)
IMHO The 06 stuff sheets on the 07 for asthetics!
Back to der drawing board...
