Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I generally dont care what anyone calls me, least of all in some bikeforum...but..

FWIW, I got verballed by Aussies twice...in the same week for some reason.

Once in our work carpark by the facilities manager of the office next door who thought as he shouted at me for parking in the wrong spot, he could mimic my accent and take the pi$$ while abusing me.
FWIW, i did the right thing and drove off, only 5 mins later i felt like going back and punching his fat red head in! So I reported it and he got a written warning. HR figured that he might think it's ok winding me up but you couldnt mimic an asian/indian accent while abusing someone and expect to get away with it..right?

Then again by an older road rage dude, He figured I was in his lane (I hadnt actually moved) and wasnt interested in his crap, even when when he came chapping on my window abusing me. When he heard the accent and shouted "Go home you import"..well thats when I went banzai!

Yeah I dont have a gazillion years of persectuion, in fact the grand total is about 15 seconds but I tell ya when someone pushes those buttons in a confrontational situation...not good!

i reckon they are just uptight because after stage 9 of TDF stage wins : Aussies 3. Seppo's: Zip!.....based on the fact that theres 20 million of us & 300 million of them, we would have 45 stage wins in the 1st 9 stages if we had their population! (any wonder I flunked maths! )
Seppos pwn3d.

I was just over at another forum I hang out on, Jihadforums.com. You wanna see what they call Seppos there! Running pig-dog imperialist spawn of satan infidel is considered polite.

Ahead is one of the more painful and dangerous little climbs, with cars chopping and changing all over the place, drivers getting aggro with each other and innocent cyclists.

The guy clearly wanted a ride partner for that section. I wanted to keep the pace up and complete my quota of suffering. So I left him in my wake to fend for himself.

So what should I have done: do the social thing and ride with him for a chat and risk getting tangled up in commuter hell, or stick to the training plan and let him sort out his own problems?
Clearly you're feeling a bit guilty about this - which makes you a nice bloke with a conscience. HOWEVER, if you were on a schedule and he wasn't in obvious trouble/distress, then sticking to your own plan was appropriate.

I'm assuming your schedule wasn't so tight that you couldn't have slowed down and ridden with this guy which is why your conscience is tickling you. On the other hand, putting yourself into a potentially dangerous situation in order to help out or be nice to someone else is never a wise thing to do, so either way, you did the right thing.

If I tip him...he will come! Yep, It's Robbie again for stage 9
Followed by a healthy dose of Cadel in stages 10 & 11.
Does anyone reckon Landis is a real threat in the mountains?

Fingers crossed that Robbie and Cadel get a jersey each!

Hell yeah. I'm a great believer in looking after the fallen, especially newbs out of their depth on a group ride. I'll go back and help when all the other juggernauts plow on in ignorance.

Someone who can't keep pace in peak hour on a three lane highway is asking for trouble. I remember just what it was like when I dragged the bike down off the wall again. It was hell on every ride for weeks, and I was even riding on the friggin footpath on where I knew I was going to hold up traffic badly!!!!

But I didn't wan't to get tangled up in his woes either, so I just left him to live and learn. He didn't seem keen to try to keep pace (read suffer) anyway. End of partnership.

Unlikely, my 1992 Laser TX3 4WD Turbo has a 60L tank. You don't reckon Ford would put the same size tank as a 4-cyl rice rocket in a honking great Fairmont - the howls of outrage from the heartland would have been deafening.

Then again, I could be wrong, but I did think the bigger cars had bigger fuel tanks.

He called me a liar the other day. I took great satisfaction in dispelling that myth. I am a man of honour. Tardy maybe, but still a man of honour.

Best night out I ever had was in that nightclub from Trainspotting, it was built on a traffic island in Glasgow (not Edingburgh as depicted)...and has since been demolished

Rockin out to Secret Samardi on 11 with monitors at very close range. Kick drum is pounding my chest as if I was sitting inside a W bin at an Angels concert at the Newcastle Workers. One of my mates fell asleep inside one of those one night!!! God knows how. How he can still hear, that is.
