http://sheldonbrown.com/bridgestone/index.html And by modern standards that geometry is not a typical road frame. The chainstays at 42 mm are 1.5cm longer than your RB-1 for example. And the trail of 17mm is on the longish side. Definitely designed to be more a stable cruiser than a racing bike. |
Oh Boy. Don't let super6 Ginsu see this :-) |

Kicking it old school with some american steel.

Love the Stowe...very purdy. Red or orange?
|
Very red. The yellow is more of a goldenrod, I have the correct colored deda tape on the way. I'd love to lose the schwinn made boat anchor of a fork and get a carbon fork on there, but the graphics are too good. I even have the fork in wait, anyone know a good painter that can match decals and color?
In this album you can see its evolution during the time I've had it. It came with that ugly stem and STIs. By happenstance I ran into Rob Stowe via a craigslist sale for a raleigh 3speed and had him tell me about it. It was a little odd to meet the builder of one of my bikes, but he seemed pretty plussed to see one in the wild again, more than 20 years after he'd sent it off. |
An unending work of art. If it's really red, you can probably do a good job of rattlecanning the carbon fork and print up your own decals. There's a lot of help for this kind of thing on C&V.

Woah that must have been trippy. Nice bike its hot!
what did you do with the old shimano tri color group? The tricolor is still on it. It took me FOREVER to find the 6401, 8speed downtubes, the 7 speed ones are everywhere, but by the time the 8 speed came around nearly every bike was STII actually finished the group off- picked up the stem, post and both kinds of pedals- clips and clipless. I have yet to get the stem on, but that'll happen this weekend when the goldenrod deda tape I've ordered shows up. I decided to convert this to downtubes, because having two bikes will full tricolor STIs seemed a little redundant. It took me FOREVER to find the 6401, 8speed downtubes, the 7 speed ones are everywhere, but by the time the 8 speed came around nearly every bike was STI. Also have this bike with more or less full tricolor: http://i.imgur.com/COvFvl.jpg They're buddies! http://i.imgur.com/YFtSil.jpg http://i.imgur.com/WpsmCl.jpg I just realized you might be inquiring about picking up a tricolor group- like an idiot, I bid on two complete STI groups (without wheels though) late night one ebay the other night. Turns out I won them both, so I'm a little flush with tricolor stuff right now. Feel free to PM me if I'm reading you right. |
I'd do all-yellow tape on the Stowe and black on the Merckx. Not a fan of color matching tires either, but otherwise those bikes look great. Can't go wrong with tricolor 600 stuff.
Here's a horrible grainy instagram shot of my Titanium AX. I built it up from a frame. The fork is a steel Ritchey threadless. 6600 drivetrain with 7800 downtube shifters. When I find the right one the stem will get swapped for a zero rise (with zero spacers). Wheels are DT Swiss 340 (rear) and bikehubstore SLF85W front laced to Kinlin XR19W rims by yours truly. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8202/8...176a8af8_z.jpg The plan is to eventually move the components to another more practical bike and build this back up with Sram Red/Force level stuff. |

Thanks. Yes it's a terrible picture.
The wheels weigh about 1550 grams. Can't recall if that's the before or after Veloplugs weight. 24h radial front (Sapim Laser), 28h 3x rear (Race DS, Laser NDS) with black brass nipples. I have about $300 in them. Ebayed the rear hub NOS. Didn't feel like messing with a house brand hub for the rear and was willing to take a little weight penalty. Very glad I went that way. Haven't gotten much riding time on them, but they've been solid so far and built up very smoothly. |

its actually something that I build for the wife... if you look at frame (and the ratio of the size of the chain rings to the frame itself) you might notice that things look odd... its because its a bike based on 26" wheels. The wife is 5'4" and this is a 48cm frame with 26" wheels. http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...95381352_n.jpg |

Cool paint. The brake levers are darn near a 1/3 the length of the whole front end of that bike!
|
gotta be 650 wheels. man that chain line between rings and sprockets is mad short. HAWT!! Sure hope it never gets crashed.

^NICE!! HOT!! haha that must be one of the quickest accelerating bike ever. The chainrings overlap the wheels and extend further than the whole rim. Super nimble too I bet. 700c or 650c wheels?

Here's some details of the artwork and a videoclip of bike and rider, which we made during our holiday in France.
