Riding a bike now instead of waiting for the perfect thing is pretty hot. I like the Merckx. The only other major aesthetic bummer besides the seatpost is those FSA cranks.

That Ribble is really ugly. With all black everything and saddle and cockpit set up at sensible angles it could be ok.

Re: the Raleigh introducing a color that doesn't already exist on the bike is always risky. Doesn't work for me.

That BH just looks like a modern road bike.

Yeah, people are very conservative of the setup of the shot on this thread, for good reason too. But, I think if you placed your bike in front of a solid beige/tan/brownish background, it will cteate a really nice solid clashing background to your bike. Obviously following a couple of the rules set forth in this thread will help as well.

I'm not sure which color you were talking about. A better picture may help more. The backround on "Raleigh USA" on the top tube is yellow. "Competition" on the top tube is yellow, and "Raleigh" on the downtube is yellow fading to silver.

Ah. Looks more gold in the picture.

Anyway, too much yellow.

:thumb: Point taken. I was thinking that the tires were just too much over the top ever since I mounted them.

Yes. Nothing wrong with the angle of the bars on the BH.

The ramps are pretty steep compared to compact handlebar shapes, but that's just the way they are. Maybe the hoods could come up *very* slightly, but you can get into goofy territory quickly with that type of bar.

Agreed. Just a good old traditional bar. Based off recent experience, I'm guessing they are about as high as they can go without issue. Nt often you see sti levers on these bars, ergo levers are more common.

Hard to form a definitive opinion without better pics, but I lean towards "hot"...

even though it's too loud for me to want to ride, there's real eye appeal IMHO

And now for something completely different. I'll throw my somewhat-vintage road bike out there to be shredded.

(Please note, the pedals have been upgraded to Mavic Race SL Ti clipless pedals. These were temporary replacements between when my Ultegra pedals broke and the new pedals arrived.)

Ok here goes. Probably not the right time to post this since the bar tape isn't on yet and I don't want to put it on just to take it off when I go to the fitter tomorrow. I'll post afterwards but it will lack the "style" proportions and I'll post on a snow background.

I took the cues from many of you, made sure my tires aligned with logos on rims, valve stem, etc. Have fun but be good to me, I'm fragile :)

Ditch the valve caps, and if your tape isn't going to be white, it should be.

Yeah, I'd say looking very nice!

Without caps and with white tape? I believe so.

off the bike I find those cranks ugly. On the bike they are not so bad (and way better than 7900)

bianchi10 02-21-13 05:25 PM

Might be the angle of the picture here, but if it was MY bike, I would rotate bars down a smidge. White bar tape should look good. Cant wait to see it completed!

when you take the final shot after the bar tape and steer tube cut, be sure to line the valve stems straight up, and then align the crank arms and I think you're in there.

Definitely hot, though I'm biased.

My LBS had a white Toupe+ in the bargain bin. I tried to talk myself into it, but I'm not sure I have enough personal style to pull off white bar tape and saddle.

I would too. Not much, but just a touch.

Nagrom_ 02-21-13 05:37 PM

He's taking it to a fitter tomorrow, so I assume bar angle will be dealt with.

HOT...well done!

Sidney Porter 02-22-13 06:21 AM

Ribble - Not - over done lose some of the color transitions.
BH - Hot - but cut the steerer, desticker the wheels personally I don't like the frame/seat post. But still potentially hot.
Raleigh - Not but could be hot - It looks like it is trying too hard. Lose some of the yellow
Eddy Merckx - Hot? It is a bad picture with the background. I don't know if I like the pink but I think you went the right direction but not accenting the pink.

Sidney Porter 02-22-13 06:22 AM

Ridley - Hot

Sidney Porter 02-22-13 06:24 AM

My observation on the Red, Black, White and Silver bikes
In general For the most part with the red, white, black, silver combination the owner needs to decide what is the color of the bike and the others should be used as accent colors. Too many of these bikes turn into an attempt to create a bike that is 4 colors. Which is different than a black bike with red and white accents. I also think that in general if you are going for the red, white, black combination you need black components silver components become distracting. And you reads needs to match.

It's up there for yet another all black bike, because it isn't over-logo'd nor doing the opposite black-black-black thing. What color tape are you planning?
