In news elsewhere, I admit I had been a bit disappointed with the plot and the pace of The Pacific the past two episodes.

But wow, the attack scene in this week's installment was intense. Looks like next week will be epic, too.

I don't know enough about film making to diagnose the difference, but the realism of the battle scenes in Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and now this just seems to be a cut above that of most other films.

Not for nothing, but hearing all those lame Elvis songs gave me a new appreciation for how great Elvis really was, because many of those songs are kind of lame. They were great because Elvis was great. And I'm not a particular Elvis fan, but greatness is self evident, and Elvis defines it in pop music. I don't know what it is, but Elvis had it.
