Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

218 doesn't climb Storm King, it wraps around the base. As a matter of fact, I road on 218 this morning. There is some back road that climbs Storm King out of Cornwall by the way. I'll find it on the map.

Does anyone in the DC area (DC or just outside of, not manassas or far-ish away places) have any good places to ride? I'm tired of Hains point.

For some injuries, riding can be therapeutic. The problem is that if you ride daily and you have an injury, there's always a good chance your persistent riding motion is a factor that caused or exacerbated the condition. This is particularly true with conditions like patellar tendonitis (the injury that will sideline Boonen from the Tour de France this year) and similar repetitive stress injuries.

You reading my mind? I expected my second ride to be a complete suck fest just like the first but, I took my time and warmed up. Big difference. Although I can still feel it, its 10,000 times better than it was. Stupid guad muscles, stupid spasm/cramps. So, put me down for another 30 miles for the day, that gives me 55. I originally wanted to do 60 but I'll take it. Oh, by the way as soon as I got kitted up and outside with my bike the rain stopped! Thats what I call a turnaround!

A dollar per mile? That's not going to get you any money. At least I hope not. God help you.

A paved road? Good. When you find it let me know cause it's news to me.

Maybe. I'm looking for shorter. Like a 1-2 hour loop.

So we'll skip Storm King. Actually, 218 does go up and down a bit, so you'd accumulate some vertical on that road. Then you could take 9W all the way down to Iona Island and climb up to Bear Mtn. the long way. Then you could descend back down to 9W and go back up into Harriman via Gate Hill.

Whoa--Pcad talking climbing smack to someone in south NJ. Next he'll be going after the Florida and North Dakota cyclists.

Maybe on the hills he could keep up, but i bet pcad couldn't stay with me in a race. I have asked him to come visit a 4/5 race down here I am 90% sure I would keep up with him on any hills as well.

Listen razor. You've done less than 5 cat 5 races and are the king of your local fred ride. You have no room to claim that you are a "rocket." Jump into some 3/4 or hell even a 4 race and you will be shocked.

cat 5 and 4 seem the same to me... however i agree that king of the fast ride doesn't mean much till you cross the line first at a real race.

If you are really turning 24-26 you will do very well and have something to hang your hat on.

Exactly why he has no merits to call himself a rocket.
