There are more riding options on the North Carolina side of the mountains.
As I mentioned the Blue Ridge Parkway is nice (at least at the southern end). The grades generally don't exceed 5-6%, wide sweeping turns, low traffic (except during peak times) and great scenery.
Other nearby roads can also be nice. For example, here are routes around Sylva, NC.

There are several nice places to see and/or cycle near Asheville (Mount Mitchell, Lake Lure, etc.).
Roads in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park would be nice, but the traffic is too annoying unless you ride early morning on weekdays.
I understand there's good riding around Boone, NC, but I've never been there (except to Roan Mountain, on the Tennessee side).
The Cherohala Skyway is a challenging adventure. Typically very light traffic except when the motorcyclists invade on the weekends and holidays.

I have been to Boone , without a bike, for work. I did get to drive up some of the more popular routes. up old Grandfather etc. Some of them I had a hard time getting up in the rental car. Thanks for posting those other routes they look tough, perfect.

I did 65 miles on my ride today. I am finally begining to adjust to life without sugar, I actually had some power and stamina today. I did 12 miles at 26 mph. and I cranked it up to 30 for the last half mile or so. Felt great. best part is I wasnt all in at the end.

I have 7:45...I think he will stop to eat at some point.
I think mzeffex may be dropped, but will have a lot of fun and want to do it again....dropped after 5 laps...pulled after 8 (assuming about 1 mile laps and a 20 mile race)

Does it sound loud (hissing kind of)? Check for aluminum threads in the brake pads.

I bought an Adamo saddle because it was on a great sale ($90, vs $150), but I haven't even bought a TT bike to put it on just yet*. This thing looks like it would be probing my nether regions in unpleasant ways, but we'll see.
*You'll rue the day I get a TT bike. I should make 3 threads about it.

It could be the cable tension is loose. Does it pull back all the way? I would think that would be obvious if that was the case. Check for stuff in the pads like I said.
