Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I found Bob somewhat entertaining until yesterday. The Lance Armstrong dink suckfest of yesterday's coverage was unbearable. The dude is forty minutes back. Move on.

Is that the kind of excuse you would make to another fatty?
It's the kind of excuse a guy lugging 50 more pounds might make.

Last Fri, I encountered a guy lugging a canoe and a kayak with his bike. A few years back, I considered riding a double century with a couple cinder blocks strapped to my bike just to be a wise guy. I've ridden 16% grades when carrying 5 bottles of wine as recently as last year.

I'll bet is was with a standard double chain ring and a 12-21 cassette. That's harsh.

I've seen infighting in the 33. It has begun.

The 33 is like the lions of the wild kingdom. The bad asses of all beasts. And just like the lions, when they get done letting the rest of the beasts know who is boss, they smack a few of their own around to make sure there are clear leaders. Eat a few of their young. Then go on with life as usual.

We are the hyenas. We laugh at them.

i just read the last 3 pages and think your animal group social dynamics is very evident in those pages. the big gorillas sit there and let the younguns get all excited and then one of them crosses the line and a big boy makes a little comment and the youngun goes scurrying with tail between legs making conciliatory noises of subservience. excellent.

And you're rght about us being the hyenas too. we just run wild anarchicly with no regard for any hierarchy.

I'm still trying to figure out pCad. Maybe the result of cross breeding.

OR, maybe like Steve Martin in "The Jerk".

so who's the big gorilla in here? i see none.

if you mean pcad I wold totally disagree. he can say what he wants but his word is not law in here. most times he is ranting just like the rest of us and the ranting falls on deaf ears just as it does with the rest of us.

today i had lunch with my 4 year old god daughter and her little baby brother and their mother. so i said to the cute little girl, do i scare you? she shook her head. so i made a scary face and roared like a lion at her. she roared back louder.

that is like pcad exerting his big balls over us in this thread.

He claims to be skinny. That would make a funny looking but not very intimidating gorilla.

He is hairy for a road rider, but that's most likely because he secretly covets recumbents.

I was referring to the 41 in general.

I think any internet forum with users that have been around for years has a hierarchy. People get to know each other. Obscure references are made that a select few understand. Newbies get hazed, start to feel comfortable, and then haze other newbs. It's the cycle of internet anonymity.

Or it's like a fraternity with Vol as the social/cultural events chair.

The social/cultural events chair doesn't lead the group. Everyone has a role.

I think the difference is that the respect is given freely, not demanded. Here, people are open to letting others in, there, you have to pass some dumb ass tests.
