Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll be in Turkey so I'll make sure to wave from the other side....and flip you the bird as is often the custom when you look to Greece from Turkey.

Oh and did you still have the Ksyriums you were going to sell?

Perfect. I was in Turkey once. It's a rather amazing country in many respects.

My kind of weather. Not so hot here today. 80º, cloudy, I think it will be on and off rain today. Kind of nice riding weather for my short 30 miler this AM. I'll do 90+ miles tomorrow.

I want to go MTBing today, but I know if I call up the one guy I know who does and he agrees.. we'll be in this ridiculous heat for 4+ hours and 40+ miles off road. Too much.

Anything over 2 hours in the woods starts becoming a death march, particularly if you crash 3x in the last 40 minutes, as I did on my last epic MTB outing. Then I had to ride 17 miles home. It was like 2+ hours on the road with a 3+ hour MTB ride in the middle. Hot day. I felt like I had run the NY Marathon while getting body checked by the NY Rangers.

That's only because you lack the skills that I call "upright". I could bike to go mountain biking, it's like 10 miles.. but then I'd have to be outside and that's no fun.

I'm about to sell my mountain bike to make some space in the apartment and offset some of the price of the tri bike that's coming in. I've had that bike for 10 years, but it's too much of a pain in the ass to get out of the city to go MTB. Accotink is probably the closest decent riding, and it's still a good 15 miles by highway, more by back roads.

They pulled my 'let's all be enemies' parody thread after like 3 minutes.

Sigh.

You can't have fun on this stupid forum anymore.

Accotink + Wakefield.

10 miles by bike from my house in Alexandria.

What is said mountain bike and said tri bike?

Okay so I have a few things on my list, help me decide which to go for:

Zipp 404 rims laced to ultegra hubs

or

Specialized Crux Expert Carbon 2011

or

Specialized Crux Comp aluminumin 2011 and Powertap on Open Pro.

Any of the above will be raced. I think I'll go for the Carbon crux probably.

On occasion. Hey, let's face it, when you're a big Box Office Draw, you can get away with anything.

Just ask Mel Gibson.

Does anyone else here feel uncomfortable with shaved legs? I feel more comfortable with cyclists, fine with two of my friends, and the others I won't wear shorts around.

I'm probably just an over self conscious teenager, but whatever.

Everyone knows if you shave your legs you are gay. No exceptions. Even if you have a girlfriend.

Schwinn Homegrown hardtail. Great bike, but I can always buy a new MTB if I moved somewhere that had easier trail access. It's most an issue of space. I've got 3 bikes right now in my bedroom.

New Planet-X Exocet tri bike.

Hmmmm. Shave my legs to fit in with a small group of guys, or don't shave to fit in with society. That is a tough one. Well, you could always just do what you want and not give a crap what any group thinks.

I missed the parody thread. Too bad. Did it get ugly? And how do you know when you get points, do they tell you?

Near Lorton off of Rt. #123...

Technical, with some vicious hills. Only about 7 miles per lap, but 1 lap there feels almost like 20 miles tooling around Wakefield/Accotink...

Now I want to get some new bar tape. Color suggestion?

My weather sensor is now predicting a high tomorrow of 102, with a heat index of 108. Going to get up early to get in 60 miles on the bike.

One by one, all the Addiction thread posters--save Velo Vol--quietly succumbed to the wussiness plague that was ravaging BikeForums.
