Who does the P90X workouts?

Man, just completed the Yoga X for the second time. It does get easier. I'm no yoga expert, and really have never done it before, but I seem to be getting better at it. several of the moves are really tough and just can't do them yet, but many of them I.m getting better at. Also, lost 6 lbs total since I started this thing. I'm happy with it so far, and no doubt will be in much better shape when I can start riding outside again.

Chest n' back yesterday, and gonna do Plyo today.
A little more than 20 lbs lost since October. Yesterday, I got to use the smallest hole on my belt for the first time ever.
I'l add that it hasn't been just P90X -- I've been logging calorie intake, too. But, I think that working on the entire body helps, since it keeps all the non-cycling muscle groups from atrophying into useless mass that won't burn enough calories over the rest of the day.

yesterday I did Legs & Back; and ab ripper X. I still can't finish all the reps in the ab ripper X DVD. It's a short 15-20 minute workout, but it is really damn difficult.
Over since last June, I've lost 35 pounds, but that was just cycling only. I was very very overweight. over Christmas, I gained 6 pounds back and it shocked me. I refused to give in and let the weight creep back on, so i got the P90X. The first month I had it, I only did it every now and then, and was actually not ready to commit to it yet. Two weeks ago, my wife and I both committed to doing it according to the schedule for the full 90 days. In the last two weeks I've lost 7.8 pounds (yes, i have a digital scale), and almost 2.0 off the BMI.
I also try to eat carefully. Organic as much as i can. I try to eat a balanced diet consisting of equal portions of low glycemic carbs, lean proteins, and the good healthy fats (omega 3, 6, 9). Lots of fish and salad and fruit. Eggs in the morning. No bread, nothing with gluten in it. Vegitarian (except for the fish). No soda pop at all.
I do a protein drink 1/2 hour before the workout (muscle milk) and a recovery drink afterwards (endurox r4). I drink Cytomax when I ride or do a spin DVD. I have set a short term goal of losing 10 more pounds, but long term I would like to lose 20 more.

Cougars? You mean the Ford/Mercury car that couldn't find an identity? Or the hot older women who like to hook up with younger guys?

i love the plyometrics workout...definitely not riding that day or the day after, but it's an excellent change of pace. all in all P90X is great...especially for a fair-weather cyclist like myself. It's way warmer in my basement where I can ride on the trainer and do P90X all winter. keep it up, it's excellent.

The results in everyone that I've seen do P90X are about the same as someone going on a diet. It works, for the 90 days. But it's so intense that I haven't seen anyone able to keep an enduring routine once it's over. In my opinion it's better to just gradually and consistently increase your workouts.

I gotta say, P90X is half the reason why I just sold my trainer. The other half is that I've collected enough cold-weather gear that I can go outside to ride instead of bothering my downstairs neighbor.
For a scheduler, there used to be a page at fatdad.org that had a script where you could enter your start date and time of day, and it would spit out either an Outlook or iCal file (your choice) with the complete 90-day routine. That was really helpful for me when I wanted to know which video to load onto my phone before heading to work.

It's a little disappointing to see so many people call it "too intense", though. Do you want to exercise or not? It's just an hour. Saying that it's too intense makes it sound like we ride bikes just to cruise around at an easy pace. Do Insanity for a while, and P90X won't seem so hard.
But, again, it's only as intense as you make it. So what if you can't do "plyometric pushups" and launch yourself off the floor twenty times in a row -- do like I do and push up from your knees just quickly enough to manage a feeble hand clap.

I've been doing P90X since February and I'm a huuuge fan. Absolutely hands down the best workout I've ever done. I've played football, soccer, track, and rugby my whole life and these workouts KILL me. Major gains on and off the bike and have lost at least 20 pounds. After the initial 90 day plan, I just started swapping out the different weeks training routines. For kicks me and my girlfriend started doing dodgeball and kickball here in Philly and that lands on Thurs so I'll do a P90X workout Monday, ride on Tuesday, P90X on Wednesday, something fun on Thursday, P90X on Friday (leg workout) then a long ride on Saturday, and rest on Sunday. If you go to the gym and pay a membership, these will easily pay for themselves. I used to have a $40 membership to a gym here in Philly which I would have paid double so far what the DVD's cost. Highly recommended.

No kidding. Some people think that it's a lot to spend, but it's way cheaper than a gym membership, and cheaper than any bike trainer I would buy. Less than ten bucks a disc, too.

And to those that question the impact of the workouts on your riding ability, just try it.

If the P90x is too intense you should look at the Power 90 series which is what Tony Horton did prior to P90x.. It just moderately kicks your butt..
The P90x and Insanity Dvd's will give you a great workout..

I just found out about the P90X workout routine a week ago. I have been doing a lot of reading and want to give it a try. I am still undecided on the equipment to get. I need a pull-up bar, push-up handles and either resistance bands or dumbbells. I thought I would get dumbbells until I saw the prices. This workout program isn't going to replace the gym, I just want to get in good shape and drop some weight which should make hill climbing easier.

that's what I did last year too. It's still warm enough to get in 4-6 rides a week here now, but I've got the P90X video's set up on the flat panel in the basement too, along with the trainer and the spinervals and carmichael videos... P90X kicked my ass last year. Not looking forward to another winter with it, but it is so worth it.

Pullup bar is nice, and so are pushup bars. Bands will get you almost every move that can be done with dumbbells (and, as you work up to lots of pullups, hang them from the pullup bar so you can pull on them to get reps with a decent range of motion). If you buy dumbbells, you're going to be adding to them as your progress, and you won't be able to travel with them very easily (important to me, at least).

I use P90X as well. Love it. Too intense depends on you. If I'm not feeling that great, I simply dial it back a little. Hit pause... If I'm feeling very good, I do the exercises very strictly and with no rest. After this series is the P90X+ which I've yet to do but it's designed to do past P90X.
I use a combination of a Bowflex and the Bowflex dumbells which work great with P90X.
