Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like Vino is BACK! Yippie! I don't care how much dope he is on. I like watching him race.

And how. It is starting to cool off a bit and it is still 95 degrees and 88% humidity and I was riding all day. Well, most of the day. I dropped by my favorite shop halfway through my ride and ended up sitting through a couple midday Belgian beers next door.

There was little doubt that the rest of the buildups to the TDF are going to be watchable for him, Cadel, Basso, and whoever else feels they have a last kick. Even a major win for Vino will result in him retiring at the end of the year.

I watched a little too. I wanted to go there (my local club had a tent at Lemon Hill), and a dude I know finished in the top 40...

Bikes: Have two wheels

I'd love to watch the brewing battle of wits between our two resident wayward thinkers, but I'm going out for a while.

Nice, I was so fragged from the weekend's rides. I made it about 10min in, then it was dream time. That's pretty much how TV is for me lately.

Of course not. I was mostly directing that statement to Gomer.

Understood. Though, ol Velo Vol actually throws some miles under his belt.

How come you keep riding in the same general area? Why don't you mix it up and ride to Yellowstone? Or Kansas?

I am building up to a 600K on the 18th, which I hope to finish in under 24. I will take a small break this weekend, and keep it around 100 on Sunday.

Sounds like fun actually. I was initially thrown off by the Gomer like MPH, but then I saw the distance and it made sense. That is a long time on a bike. I rode 100miles between Sat night, and Sunday. No racing this week, but two races next week.

My ride is 115 miles--pretty similar to yours.

I likewise hope to finish in under 24 hours.

Bike fit, and proper equipment. (saddle) Even then, one has to stand up and pedal, here and there.

I decided to take a 30 mile round trip to the swimming beach at about 5 since it actually starting heating up into the mid 90's again late in the afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to top 100 F inland from Lake Michigan and I have made sincere plans not to be among the masses who drop like flies. I may just forgo miles and elevation gain if favor of the weight of the water I take in versus how much weight I lose on the ride.
