Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When ground troops are pinned down, who you gonna call? The flyboys, that's right.
Are you kidding me? The US Air Force has been killing Canadians since 1944. It took the Taliban quite a while to beat the USAF's score in Afghanistan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarnak_Farm_incident

The Blackhawk drivers who flew MEDIVAC I like, because those guys would fly anywhere, anytime and didn't know how to say "no" (not like the friggin' Dutch) but I don't want an American with something that goes "bang" flying anywhere near me.

Paktiya, Afghanistan
I signed up for this forum when I was in Kandahar. I put a ride up Mt Doom on my bucket list while I was there. Keep your head down, brother.

He's Navy.

Not that that would earn him any points, at all. Damn sailors.

So I took a few weeks of vacation from work. Apart from a few days backpacking I have spent every day on the bike or running, and lifting in the gym. I got in 340 miles on the bike with at least one more ride planned before I go back to work on Thursday. Considering I've ridden maybe 100 miles in the last 2 years I would say the addiction is back. Feels good man.

I was at the DSM Shootout this weekend. Where were you?
Home.

Marco wanted me to come help work the Magnus booth... but me and Bushnuts don't get along so well these days. I'm persona non grata in Norwalk. And it's not like anybody remembers who I am anyway.

He's Navy.
Navy and great abs?

Does he drive a Miata perchance?

Are you sure you don't play on the same team?

Um, no, that's simply called "negotiating," and it can be done with forms of payment other than cash. In fact, many establishments don't want to see large sums of cash.

Are you not paying attention? My coverage exceeds what the banks require, anyway. Again, the car is not the important part.

I was just happy to Shep make a some passes in the old car. That dude is such a legend. Norwalk is only like 45min away for me. This is about the only event I try to go to every year. I call the "Shootout" the "Festival of Catastrophic Drivetran Failure". I'm a bit of a critic I guess. It's still a good time. 4 of the Quick 16 qualifiers broke, in typical dsm fashion before they ever made it to the starting line. The track crew always gets a workout at the Shootout.

In my calculations, the diesel will save me, at minimum, $800/year over the previous car. That's with driving 25k a year.

So put some studded snow tires on those rims for the 1st Annual Mt. Doom Winter Hill Climb, and then get aftermarket rims for it. You'll find something that makes you forget those VW upgraded factory rims in no time.
