Have you ever ridden with WIDE bars? You can actually apply more force to the pedals.

reedreeder 05-02-08 02:19 PM

they're about shoulder length, which is pretty much where my hands would be regardless of how wide they are.

somehow i doubt that. If you didn't have such a ridiculous saddle-bar drop then you'd find that this frame is indeed too small.

ehhh, i lowered the seat a bit, it was too high. all i know is after riding both sizes, this one doesn't leave me sore after an hour and a half's ride, whereas the 60 felt like i was straining my back because the TT was too long. i'm happy with it

When just cruising, but when mashing out of the saddle it's to have a little more leverage.

Also, any idea what frame that is. I think I ride a very similar frame and fork.

EDIT: Never mind, you don't have the shifter braze ons.

My work in progress, also my first fixed gear.

it's a 83 trek 510. you're is a schwinn traveler? from around the same time period, i imagine.

also, you're pretty picky for someone with no bar tape or foot retention.

reedreeder 05-02-08 04:24 PM

is that a deep v in back and a fusion in front?

Dannihilator 05-02-08 04:31 PM

Deep V in the back and Aerohead up front.

nice Miyata 310, mine has the same paint, but still the red decals. And i have similar bars and grips too, just wider, and a brake.
I've seen very few 310's with that paint job, congrats!

what'd you do? reflective rim tape? or are your tires reflective?! that's sick

Sixty Fiver 05-02-08 05:13 PM

Many tire makers (like Schwalbe) add reflective strips to their tyres... I have a pair of Marathons that glow like that.

it's a trek, not a miyata, but basically the american/japanese versions of the same bike.

54cm-ish Traveler from Japan factory. it's too small for me (hence the ridiculous seatpost), but it was free.

rear is formula fix/fix with 1/8" surly cogs, 20t/15t. shimano lockrings.

swiss spokes, pine cone laced: 4X version; two leading, two trailing.

deepV, whitewall everwear.

shown bottom-right is a cheap alexrims with surly 20t for polo duty. mystery lockring. also has 17t freewheel for emergencies.

centerpull from '70s LeTour. only used with polo wheel. calipers drilled to reach 700 rim.

classic "anti-theft" saddle from LeTour.

original BB, 3/32 chainrings (42t/fiftysomethingt), cranks, pedals. 1/8 chain. MKS clips. mystery straps.

SR stem. bars from LeTour, chopped & flopped. wrapped in cheap nylon tape on R. cloth tape on L because I always crash L and the nylon kept ripping. ancient road lever, chopped (on L for polo).

another cheapo alexrims on front.

anheuser bush keg from 4th of July party.

Behold, my "polished turd", as some perfect stranger on velospace once called it. According to him, converting, or doing anything to, a 1988 Cannondale Criterium was a waste of time because you can't polish a turd. Granted, I'm not finished and I still need to replace the saddle, post, stem, bars, front wheel, and brakes. But I'm happy with the color, and the entire drivetrain is amazing (2nd pic)...Campy Chorus BB, 49t Miche Primato crankset, White Ind 16t Freewheel, White Ind Eric's Eccentric ENO hub.

EDIT: In the 2nd pic, the White Freewheel was not yet installed...but it is now and it's insane!

Dannihilator 05-02-08 08:13 PM

Very nice.

bryanhayn 05-02-08 08:22 PM

I see no polished turd...but I do see a very nice bicycle.

c0urt 05-02-08 09:00 PM

i like it

Sixty Fiver 05-02-08 09:52 PM

turd schmurd... the Cannondale looks great and it really all comes down to riding what you like.

corter 05-02-08 10:00 PM

yea, that looks comfy and clean, something a lot of people don't pull of. very nice

Its a rebranded frame, so I'm not sure what it is.

Those are spd pedals with platforms on one side, and the tape was on it way to my mail box.

Wearing a color other than black would help a lot too.
