i had some saveedra turbos for a while. they cracked at the spoke holes after a year or so and i destroyed another on a pothole. they're cheap but i got tired of relacing them because those spoke hole washers are a *****.
now i just have a montreal and a gp4 laced to low flange hubs, mismatched rims that are unaero as possible ftw.

edit: i figured the araya were the old school semi aero things...just googled...i see now...

saavedra turbos aren't really "Aero" perse.... and they held up fine for me. bump, curbs, whatever have you.

i ride without hands while holding my frapp

jpdesjar 11-21-08 10:47 AM

don't you mean riding a no handed wheelie while bar spinning with your free hand because one hand is holding the frapp?

bigbris1 11-21-08 10:57 AM

Sounds like me, only I make Liquor store runs & ride back no-handed with a liter of Scotch :)

She's finally done with the arrival of my new chainring from the UK:

I thought it was better suited for a road bike. Thanks, I ride it every chance I get.

Doesn't that sticker on my fork look like a decepticon badge? :)

jdms mvp 11-21-08 11:08 AM

only in the last pic :P

jpdesjar 11-21-08 11:12 AM

it is a nice small detail...slightly reminiscent of the decepticon symbol

missbyamile 11-21-08 11:15 AM

OK so in a thread I posted everyone wanted pictures of my conversion so here goes.

I bought the frame (pre-1975 Nishiki) and pretty much everything else sans wheels off CL. Put the wheels and brake on and have been riding since. Much more upgrades to come, when I am not painfully broke. For now I love her just the way she is. Oh and I have a newer saddle since this picture was taken.

I would say "be nice" but I can already tell that wouldn't make a difference in replies, so just have at it. ;)

How much was spent on the wheels?

more than on the frame... but i knew i wanted those wheels eventually so i figured there wasn't much sense in buying other, cheaper ones in the meantime.

yeah, they are more like semi-aero like i thought the arayas he was talking about were....then i googled the arayas and found out they are way different.

if the saveedra held up for you that's great. they didn't for me. maybe i laced them with too much tension or maybe it's because i weigh 190lbs don't know. i have stronger rims now.

I got lazy and haven't put the bars on that are sitting in my room.

built up from all spare parts I had sitting around my room as a winter bike that I don't really mind if it gets beat up

then the same frame, different color...

I liked the bike enough to get the same frame...just didnt want to ruin it in the winter.

bionnaki 11-21-08 12:33 PM

that's gorgeous.
what frame and wheels are those?
what components do you have on it?

bigbris1 11-21-08 12:41 PM

Thanks, full specs can be found on my velospace page via the link in my signature.

bionnaki 11-21-08 12:45 PM

thanks - didnt notice.

that is one of the better builds in this thread. good work.
