For those things? That's more of a joke than the price of the bike. You can get a pair of Ortlieb's Back Roller Classic panniers for $180 including shipping.

not the product. screw the cost! some folks just need to buy this stuff and post a
photo on their facetube page to feel validated! (assuming they can figger it out...)
have you checked the prices of harley-davidson branded musical toilet seats
amongst the collection of other crap sold at the boutique stores frequented
by dentists and plastic surgeons?

The bags may be great, I am trying not to let my personal opinions flavor my assessment of them.

it's not a joke if you fit the demographic. trek is selling the lifestyle/experience,
not the product. screw the cost! some folks just need to buy this stuff and post a

Hey! I only reported the price. I never said I thought they were worth $200. I landed a set at 40% . Brand new take offs. At $80? I think that's much more reasonable.
And when is the last time I criticized the LHT? I gave that up a bit ago. I stated my opinion, more than enough said, but you continue to beat on me.
Enough said from you also.

My criticisms about the LHT.
It could have a bit beefier chainstays like the CoMotion Americano, but so far it has handled everything well enough so beefy enough chainstays with relatively beefy seatstays seems to be stiff enough.
It could be a bit shorter. I'd like to have a longer stem, but then again the shorter stem does liven up the otherwise relatively slow steering of the bike.
M6 rack bolt holes would be awesome, but those aren't also too difficult to tap in at any given time.
A bit less BB drop so converting the 700c model to 650b would be easier.
Chainstays could also be 1cm shorter, They don't necessarily need to be as long as 460mm
ZS44 headset compatible headtube would be nice.
There. Those are some criticisms about the LHT. But those are mostly opinions / cosmetic and you need to keep in mind the LHT does have a pretty good track record, like the Trek 520. The 920 on the other hand doesn't and it's specced wrong. 920 frameset could be nice, but I don't get the internal routing and thru axle is still a bit exotic for expedition touring.

The bike shop owner in Sheboygan, WI has the 920. On the left is how he rode it over the winter. On the right it is set for some light touring. He builds them up so I do not believe it is a stock complete. He is a clyde so the wheels def have 36 spokes.

Oh !! Please do not insult yourself by comparing anything made by Co-motion to anything made by Trek and in particular compared to a LHT. A Ford Focus just ain't the same as a Formula 1 race car.
Serious halucinations!!
Get the right drugs to take!!

One, a Focus and an F1 car are in two completely different genres, whereas an LHT and a loaded tourer from Co-Motion are designed to accomplish basically the same thing.
Two, the functional differences across the entire span of upright road bikes in general is pretty small; there's arguably more actual functional difference between a Focus and an F1 car than there is between a Surly LHT and a Trek Emonda SLR 10.
There's nothing particularly odd or inappropriate about comparing touring bikes that sell at different price points, especially when talking about frame geometry choices rather than differences in groupset/tubeset/whatever tier.

For comparison purposes, lets consider the Co-motion Pangea and the Surly disc LHT in size 52cm. Please, take a moment and compare the Co-motion Pangea to the Surly disc LHT and tell us how the Co-motion Pangea is qualitatively different, and superior, to the disc LHT.
Co-Motion Cycles | pangea
Disc Trucker | Bikes | Surly Bikes
What makes the Pangea, which starts at $1965 for the frame only, worth about $1500 more than the LHT, which costs just under $500 for frame only?
I can begin this comparison. Surly uses 4130 cromo steel for frame and fork. Co-motion uses Reynolds 725 steel, which is 4130 steel heat treated, for the frame. Co-motion fork is listed simply as cromo so it is likely 4130 or Reynolds version of 4130, the 525. Benefit of 725 is more strength, but similar stiffness. It is possible the Pangea is lighter in weight, but I was not able to find a weight listing for Pangea frames, so any weight difference from the LHT is unknown. If there is a weight difference, my guess it is not much. Since these are not racing bikes, the weight difference probably means little to most who tour.
It seems one can get custom sizing with the Pangea, for an additional fee, and this could be a important difference for those unable to find comfort with standard sized frames.
Other differences? Consider
* geometry (very similar),
* braze-ons (LHT has more useful bits),
* tire clearance (LHT handles wider tires),
and other features of these bike frames.
Help the discerning buyer, who may read this thread, identify why one would spend $1500 for the Pangea frame compared to the disc LHT frame. Put aside any fixated lust and adoration for a particular brand, emotion-driven desires, and tendencies to succumb to marketing ploys and instead focus on actual differences between these frames and tell us, how do they differ?

This thread is for people who want to post pictures of their 920 and describe their bike to those who haven't had the opportunity to own, ride or see one. If you don't want to (or can't because you don't actually own one), then don't post a picture. It's that simple.

This thread is a complete failure. Of 67 posts only two include pictures of 920s. And I've just made it worse.

SS was making a joke, there is no need to say what you said. You don't seem to contribute anything to this forum you talk about this bike you own that magically cannot be photographed by anyone at any time and if it is those photos somehow cannot make it on the internet? You have made at least 748 posts on this forum and clearly can get on the internet and make an account yet uploading a photo which is almost hard not to do these days isn't possible?
All you do is click on the insert image button on the top row of the reply field and find the photo on your computer. Easy-peasy. Just keep the photo on your desktop with a easy to remember name and it will be simple to find. We are talking about rocket science here.
