Pretty close to original and extremely clean! Looks like someone changed the stem shifters out.

I had one, still have the frame hanging in the bike shed. It was a grand ride.

The bike is going to need some work in the shifting dept. rear simplex jockey wheels have very little teeth left. May have some stem shifters in a bin also. Not the type of bike I normally buy, but it sure is comphy!

Are the rims Rigida? Braking surface furrowed?

The saddle was comfy on short rides but quickly lost its appeal on longer jaunts.

Wheels are rigida. Non furrowed wheels though. Dura ace shifters going on a moto gt build and stem shifters to back on.

I kept my Free Spirit stock for awhile but then started to have some fun by changing a lot of components. I would try lots of different CP brakes or side pulls too. Upright handle bars, flipped for scorcher look and drop bars as well. Did the 10 speed, 5 speed and SS drivetrain mods. Never felt like it was a heavy bike. Handling was stable and tracked straight as an arrow. The welding was never top notch but it had class with the white fenders with gold stripes and the red, white and blue decals.

Enjoy, whichever way you decide to build it!

My weekend acquisition, snagged ridiculously cheap - but only after I had measured and re-measured the chainstay clearances and done my research. A 650b conversion done as cheaply as possible is in this bike's future ...

I wish I could say definitively that it is a 1990 or a 1991, but so far Diamond Back catalogs for those years have eluded me. The SunRace rear derailleur will be replaced along with the wheels and calipers.

1990 will say Centurion in front of the model name on the top tube, after 1990 they dropped the Centurion altogether. I have a 1990 all black Diamondback Centurion Interval frame set waiting to be built and the font on the "Diamondback" is different as well. Hope that helps some..

Thanks Murray Missile! A 1991 it is, then - though I will note the presence of a "Centurion designed" decal on the left chainstay near the bottom bracket and "Centurion" engraved handlebars, so I guess they dragged some transitional elements out for one more year, until all the parts were used up.

This may be the single dirtiest white bike I have ever encountered, in a life that has involved numerous never-washed Peugeots - behold the Tange Infinity tubing sticker -

Good call, theDowntube DB logo looks to be 1991 only, there are some german 1991 MTB catalogs out there but havent seen a road catalog. I have a 1991 Apex, that has the same Downtube logo.

Those 022 frames ride really nice. Looks bigger than a 22 in the pics. What's your plans for it?

Okay, so it's not a bicycle, but it's a classic, and kinda vintage. Stanley belt sander. Looks like it was thrown out of hell for bad behavior, but it still works.

I don't normally bother with appliances, but the sanding belt was shot and the cable looks dodgy, so I figured the odds were good there was nothing else wrong with it. And that seems to be the case!

Whoever did the shift lever change also did some McGyver-ing of the bb cable guide. It is an odd one with its white nylon roller...somewhat reminiscent of the Juy relais. Why they chose to route gear cable through a disused downtube shift lever clamp is puzzling. Remember, you have a 26.0mm steerer there. Sure does look to be in cremepuff shape!

Appears to be from the 1974-77 window. (Front & rear reflectors not original.)

Shift cable pulley and clamp from any Sturmey-equipped English 3-speed.

Thank you. Not necessarily "any" Sturmey-equipped English 3-speed. The white nylon pulley is fairly late. Earlier examples were metal, grey plastic, black plastic, etc.

This one is listed by seller as S-A yet is marked "JAPAN" -

Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this

Pulled this Gitane out of the trash today. To big for me, but it will make someone a nice cheap bike when I'm done with it. I've been on a roll with blue bikes lately.

Any guesses as to the age of it?

It's barely comparable, but we still have and use a 55-year-old electric hand mixer. It's not pretty, but still works great.

I grabbed this three-speed 1972 Raleigh at the auction for $105 CDN. Everything original. Will clean up nicely. Really excited about it. I love the metallic orange. I've searched online but haven't found a similar model. Maybe it's a unique export to Canada. Anyone who could enlighten me, please do.

Funny thing, I hadn't even thought to wonder! But internet research suggests late 50's to mid 60's. Older than I would have guessed.

Metallic orange makes for a wonderful colour on a bike! This could be an export model to Canada, they used a wider range of colour son those they sent abroad. Close up pics please!

Thanks, I will put up a full album as soon as I finish cleaning it up. Metallic orange (or cromovelato) is my favourite colour and until I find an Eddy or Wilier Triestina this one will do fine. It has a Fred Deeley distributor's decal on the top tube, a name very familiar to Western Canadian vintage bike and motorbike buffs.
