This Bianchi's been sitting on STL craigslist for awhile... maybe it's the paint job?

1985 Bianchi elite racing bike - $300 (dutchtown)
I have a 1985-ish bianchi racing street bike for sale. It is ten speeds. I don't know a Ron about it other than bianchi is a top of the line brand and it has cineili handlebars, a condor seat, dura-ace gears and shifters, dura-ace brakes, continental 23-622 (700x23C) ultra 2000 tires and magic rims. And shimano 600 cranks.

Between the paint, lack of decals and mixed bag components yes. First the seller would have to prove it is a Bianchi frame and then the quality is dubious. You would have to check for the embellishments on the frame and branding on the dropouts to get an idea if it is Italian or Oriental.

Bianchi $200

Bianchi Premio road bike (also a Mountain bike too)

Top of the line? LOL Actually the Premio was closer to the bottom, maybe top of the recreational offerings but certainly not top of the line. That thing looks like a hot mess and in need of a complete overhaul. It is also an '89, he may have bought it NOS in '92 but it is an '89.

I would trade for vintage wood working hand tools like planes, saws measuring and layout items.
I have been the sole owner of this since I bought it new in 2000 always stored inside and is in really good condition. Call or email to see in person, thanks Jeff.

I believe it is. I would not mind giving it a whirl if I thought I could recoup 200-225 is I didn't like it. I don't have a2000 catalog but according to the '01 that Boron has the foam injection technology. The put some kind of foam on the bottom of the seat tube to increase lateral rigidy, sort of like a casserole with pedals.

I think a good explanation for a bike's cost and availability would be the current gas prices. If you have a car that gets 30 miles per gallon, and that gallon of gas costs $4.00, then a 10 mile ride will easily save $1.00. If you ride that bike 30 miles per day (a lot of people can do that easily), that's $4.00 less in gas costs alone. Multiply that by 365 days in a year, and you have a figure of $1,460.00 saved in that amount of time. On a $600.00 hybrid, new, that bike pays for its self three times over, as long as there are no maintenance issues. A more realistic figure for most people would be 10 miles per day of riding, but that $600.00 bike will still pay for its self in a little more than a year.

Here is something else I'm noticing: Today's $600.00 bicycle would have been $200.00 prior to 1990. That's inflation, in spite of most of them being made in China. In fact, a Giant Cypress LX with a high-end aluminum frame listed for $480.00. It included a suspension fork, disk brakes, and a Shimano Alivio group with indexed gears and trigger shifters, just like the current mountain bikes. A 2014 Specialized Crosstrail with a similar aluminum frame and setup, but with a slightly lower quality crank, components, and an Altus rear derailleur instead of the 2004 Giant's Alivio group retails for $630.00. That's a $160.00 price jump, for a bike with slightly lower components!

I know there are other factors to consider when buying a vintage bike, such as advances in technology and depreciation, but the CPI Inflation Calculator can be helpful when comparing bikes from different years. For example, $250 in 1974 would be equivalent to $1200 in today's dollars.
CPI Inflation Calculator
$1200 in today's dollars would be worth $660 in 1990 dollars.
CPI Inflation Calculator
All you need is the MSRP from the manufacturer's catalog and the year.

Like New Electra Amsterdam Racing Touring bike from England - $475

Like new Electra Amsterdam Sport racing touring bike. This bike is made in England and was special ordered through a local bike shop for over $1,200.00. This bike was taken in by me on a trade . There is NO size on the frame however, a bike shop told who did a tune up on it said to measure from the middle of the pedal assembly to the top of the seat post. In that case that measures 20 3/4 inches.

All aluminum bike with Shimano gears and carbon fiber seat post. The seat is a GOB titanic wing flex seat made in Italy that was over $200 additional by itself. The pedals high quality Snafu brand. Beautiful speckled forest green paint that the pictures do not do justice.

This bike is about 4 years old and is light as a feather. It has been professionally tuned up by a local bike shop and is ready to go. All together over $1,400 invested!!!

Please serious inquires.....provide your contact information.
