Will rebuild the inner brick wall in the rear bedroom and pull up the floorboards in the room with bicycle to clean it out and inspect the joists ... will take a few photos ... probably will insulate the pipes, check the air bricks from proper flow through the underfloor area, remove any debris and replace any rotten joists.
Should be fun
These Brits man, don't really build stuff like the continentals or the Americans. Totally different systems, ideas and craftsmanship
However, much cheaper for labour and materials (if you wanna go cheap that is.)

All of the floor boards in the front half came up and the debris removed, the soil was taken away from the wall and the wiring and plumbing was inspected.
A little bit of tweaking is required. For example, those joists should be properly sistered with lag bolts.
However, the previous work was done to a very high standard, which surprised me and left me feeling warm inside, even if the house is getting cold now.

Why does it matter? You have your bike already. If you need another, I'm sure equivalent bikes will be available.

Interestingly, the bike rolls much better on cold tarmac with a little drizzle. I wonder whether the bearings are on their way out?
It is still the original chain and could use a little more tightening ... maybe at 5000 km.

Nothing like having fresh bearings! They're so cheap, and it's a pretty easy job to do. I bought a bunch of different sizes so I could service all the wheels and pedals on all my bikes. I even put some cheap pedals that I thought were junk, into service after putting in new bearings and adjusting the preload so that they now spin smoothly, instead of all crunchy like they were before.

Downtime? I can replace wheel bearings in a front hub in under 30 minutes. Rear might take a little longer, depending on the type of rear hub involved.

I assume that these are piece of **** hubs and aren't really serviceable, but I'll take a look next time I have that wheel off for a flat.

I came into this thread expecting to see a bike like this;

Which is generally what is viewed as a BSO in the UK but instead it looks like a pretty reasonable bike. The above bike was available for a reasonable £70 each if you bought 3 at once a day or so ago. I personally don't regard any bike a BSO if it performs its function well even if heavier than the norm. I've bought cheap fully rigid mountain bikes in the past and been more than happy with them.

Yeah. I agree. I bought the bike in England after living in CPH (Copenhagen) for a while, where it was trendy to have a multi-coloured single speed bike. It seems that the consensus is that this bike is much better than I anticipated. Essentially, it's Hi-Ten steel with super cheap wheels and not-even-Shimano/Suntour level of components. It has BMX brakes for example.
Maybe it's the BSO version of a FGSS bike?
Anyways, it was an attempt to compete with CigTech who had/has(?) a GMC Denali, which was also considered a BSO at that time.
Here's a link to other thread ... with some wild claims

, which is still a BSO but actually a pretty decent bike if you don't mind the messing-with to keep it going. In fact, I rode mine to work today. Deliberately, not because I had to. I got it in 2008 I think, 18-20K miles on it plus or minus.
