I lift weights on my "off" days. In between reps, I do ab exercises on exercise ball.
Had reached a plateau on my bike riding, so I recently added leg lifts, leg curls, etc to my routine. Trying to get my legs a bit stronger.

We bought the Trek T-900 conventional tandem, (very afforadble) and I found that my knees/ankles and my wife found her hip bones, DID NOT like going from DF pedaling style to BENT peddaling style and back! So we decided to sell the "commuter/utility" bents and buy "fitness" style DF's. It not only stopped the "pains" we were having, it also gives us more, "SEAT" time so we can more easily get more "miles" per day, comfortably on the tandem. I know many folks, can ride both types of bikes "back to back" and not have any pain problems, for some reason, it wasn't working for us??

I had two days rest. This mornig at Bally's gym, I did all upper body work. With the rest, I was strong and was doing 5 and 6 sets of each exercise. At 70 going on 71, I noticed my 6 pack is still there and getting better. With that going on, I hammered the slant board with a 45lb plate, 12 o clock leg raises and pull down rope crunches. With all this good stuff going on with my body, old man arthiritis has no time to pull his chit. Great, that is the whole idea and my goal for exercising hard.

I worked hard for one hour and a half this morning. Will run wth the wife in the evening.

Life is sweet...

Went to a local high school track. It is a cinder track, just like in the old days. I jogged a mile warm up and then did 4 x 100 meter strides followed by 2 x 200 meters hard. That's it for today as I am trying to gradually build myself back to fast running -- it's been a long time. Then I cooled down with a mile jog.

Today was my 112th consecutive day of running.

A good workout session this am - I find that if I am away for several days, performance starts to fall. I was gone and backed off a bit, and it is showing.

Then, for me, a really good swim session. I have several empirical measures of my swimming progress, and bettered them today.

LOL, not unless I can count walking all over several bike shops, while the wife and I searched for a 13 inch framed "fitness bike"! I think I wore out my bicycle shoes walking!

Good leg workout today. Barbell on power rack, full squats. Hack machine, toes raises, sitting and standing. Let extensions, front and backward. About 10 years ago, I used to be able to do at least 20 pull ups with palms facing foward. Arthiritis snuck in on me and had me where I couldn't do one pull up with palms facing foward. Well, I am giving old man arthiritis a beat down. I am able to pull off at least 6 or 7 pull ups with palms facing foward. Not much, but great for me..Going to work on getting to 10 reps. I like to stick my foot all the way up the rear of old man arthritis until he is gone forever!!

Weights today. My right knee makes little crunching noises when I do leg extensions. I'm hoping as I get stronger it will go away.

Bikes: Yes.

A 2.93 mile run at 0530 this morning. 9:30 pace. I still have the 100 mile ride on Saturday in my legs, but it was good to run to stretch out. I still have trouble with my left hip, but it's getting stronger.

I watched the Broncos look really bad, I was exhausted and drained!

I also did 90 minutes of back stretching and upper body exercises. The DR gave me until December to get rid of the pain killers or he will fuse 4 vertebrae. That is motivating.

Great swim (for me) yesterday. I can see and feel improvement in my strength and endurance.

This am - good upper body workout. 55 pushups then 35 more. I did back, lats, pecs, abs, stretch, bridges - and I even did two pullups.

I believe that pullups are much more a function of one's body weight than one's strength. You skinny folks just have a great big advantage. We "better developed" folks have to have a lot more strength to do a pullup.

But, that said, I am going to try and do more on a regular basis.

I am kind of thinking I won't do 72 pushups without stopping for my 72nd birthday. I can't seem to make it past 60.

You doing just fine with 60! IMO, doing 60 pushups at your age, is equal to a 25 year old doing 100,and I think your 60 is even stronger..

And yes, I am trying to catch you...

I did an upper body workout this morning with the wife at Bally's Gym. She is coming off an injury, so I had her go light. It was good to have her right there with me agaom. I kidded her big time too. Now I am the top dog on doing heavier weights... When she is healthy, yes, she is the top seed, cause she moves more weight then me...

Lasted about a hour..

Bikes: Yes.

A PB distance on my run today: 10.67 miles, at a 10:38 pace. That half marathon I entered in November is definitely do-able!

It's been a big week, this past one has - I rode 101 miles on Saturday, ran 2.93 miles Monday, rode 35 miles Tuesday (at a good pace), swam 1000 yards yesterday, and now this morning the long run. Tomorrow, I'll swim in the morning and then ride the bike to work tomorrow night. Taper week starts next Tuesday - I'm entered in a sprint distance triathlon next Sunday. My first "event" since my crash! I'm ready.

Somebody told me that leg-extension was bad for the knees. That is one on me. My knees are old, therefore, they are dam near worn out. However, I still do leg extensions foward and backward. Now if something starts hurting, that will be the cue to back off some.

You say you are hearing some crunching noises, IMO, I would let a doctor check that out. You don't want to abuse the knees to a point where they need surgery or stop working on you..

In the meantime, that was a good workout...

I did a quickie full-body-workout at Bally's Gym this morning. Hit all body parts, with dumbells, barbells, and machines..

Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes.

Latest I heard was the leg extensions were a pretty useless and non-transferable exercise. I don't do them any more. There is little applicaility of a leg extension to reallife, unless, I guess you kick folks a lot or are a football punter.

You could be right. A trainer was the one that told me that the leg extensions were bad for the knees. However, every major gym you go to, got leg extension machines in them. That says something right there. Yes, I know everybody can not do all exercises too.

When I do leg extensions, backward and foward, I feel my quads working, and working hard. IMO, they gotta be doing something! Then again, I am no expert!

Does digging count?
I'm re engineering the seasonal water courses on my property.

That's a fancy way of saying I'm digging ditches. After the almost two inches of rain we had yesterday I saw that the catchment basins I put in were not big enough. I enlarged the three existing ones and dug out a fourth.

None of them are very big at the moment, but they are getting there and it sure felt like a workout to me.
