Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Man, I'm glad my roadies in the shop at the minute (still). Some blokes from work go out every lunch for a time trial out to Georges Plains and back (my favourite run). I was supposed to be going out with them this week but my bike was in the shop. Anwyay yesterday, the fellas were having a sprint into town. One of the fellas was comign around the other and somehow hit foot came uncliped on the downstroke, dug into the ground and he went down. They made it back to work at which point he collapsed. I didn't see him but they rekon if he was a car there wouldn't be a panel left untouched. Then today one of the other guys who go out at lunch did exactly the same thing! These dudes aren't noobs like me either. They've been riding and racing for years. It's like the bermuda triangle out there at the minute. I don't think I'll be game to go out on my roadie when I get it back. Don;t they say these thigns run in threes?

heard it on the SEN radio cycling/triathlon show, "First Off The Bike", on Sundee night.

Apparently the track was rated 'fast' coz it was 29 degrees and low humidity

Went ot Tuesday night racing at heffron park, there were about 3 British riders in national colours racing and a few team officials watching. They were all riding matching red TREKS. They looked the part.

French, nah, different energy systmes. Chances of being an elite professional in both disciplines is very slim. Though, I wonder about Renshaw and Boonen. Renshaw rode a 1"01 I think in the kilo, and Boonen was a national champ in the kilo in juniors.

See McGrory, could not compete on the road sprints, and Kersten this year after chaning his program a little struggled to even take out sprints in the Tour of the Murray Region. He lost a crit or a short ish 60km stage to Matt Goss or MAtt Rex. One of the MAtts. They are quick, but imagine them in a match sprint.

So French would need to be a very talented endurance athlete also. MArty Nothstein tried to cross over, nd he struggled to contest sprints with Navigsators in the US dometic circtuir after getting down to about 80 kgs for 6 foot.

He might, but even Graeme Brown is struggling with the strength aspect, and the road sprints require a few sprints in the last 4 km to position yourself before the last 300 metres. So a 4 km pursuiter with a decent kick might be better prepared than a match sprinter with a kick of a mule.

I read someone say that a team sprint with Kersten leading off (the best starter in the world in the kilo) then Dajka, then Kelly would be assured of a gold medal. But because of politics, Eadie had a monopoly on his multiple spots in the sprint disciplines. Something about pro-beard.

thanks. Oooh, my size, too!!

It's a 2001 model. The cranks have obviously done a lot of work, and those silver CXP30s are worth NOTHING these days.

$1550: do ya reckon he's dreamin'?

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Well, we arrived. There is much snow, and the grass crunches under our feet. Nice place though. I think we'll spend a few days exploring. Photos on their way...

My mate pulled a womens cycling team together at the last minute, managed to get them in the Geelong women race. He got some good girls in there.

The now Mrs H Brown scored 4th yesterday

1 Rochelle Gilmore (Aus) SAFI - Pasta Zara Manhattan
2 Ina Teutenberg (Ger) T-Mobile
3 Oenone Wood (Aus) Equipe Nürnberger Versicherung
4 Hayley Brown (Aus) Chase Sydney - Smart - Mercedes Benz

Not bad. He had around a 6-7 weeks to make it happen. Good stuff.

who? you mean 7 time National TT Champion, mean mother of a road racer Nathan O'Neill ? He's raced in the US for most of his career.

He was on track to possibly win the prologue too but crashed in the last 150m.
