Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought I burst his bubble in post #92, telling him that while $10K = ~7.7US, that cash IN the US buys A LOT more bike

Can anyone please help?
I really want to do my own open heart surgery on uncle Bob, but I haven't been to medical school and I don't have time to do all the study. Can someone please tell me where to make the first incision. I should be able to find my way from there.

Where has Thunder gone? Seems to have vanished around the same time as the spring classics started.
And not a Giro post in sight?

Is McEwan hot or is he the only sprinter in the race?

Dumb Question: where are all the other sprinters?

Boonen is worn out from all the Spring Classics, Petacchi is out with a broken leg, and....err.....Cookie is no longer on the juice?

Buggered if I know. Maybe they're saving themselves for the Tour? Isn't that how it works these days?

McEwen is the only top tier sprinter there, there was only ever 2 and Petacchi got injured. For McEwen, hes no doubt in good shape but winning Giro stages are what hes paid to do. So he really should be in top form. He's by far the best sprinter left in the race and it was realistically only ever going to be between him and Petacchi. He has had it over Ale jet for the past year or so too. Except for Boonen hes probably going to beat all the other sprinters anyway, cept maybe Hushovd who might of gone up a level this year.

Cooke might of ridden had Unibet got an invite and he wont ride a GT all year. Other sprinters are doing the right thing and watching the Giro at home. Good reason too. Just one look at the parcours and you see why. Its intimidating even for the climbers and theres not many stages for sprinters. Even Petacchi had to be talked into riding it and was planning to quit early. A deal had to be struck to exclude a climb in MSR for him show up. Poor bugger, didnt get his MSR win and now badly injury in the Giro.

I heard a rumour that T Mobile hired Mick Rogers for his ability to pull his way back to the bunch with a Musette stuffed full of roast chook and saurkraut for der Jans mid-race snack (think Obelix)

Thunder had some good form during the classics but he is a Belgian hard man afterall. And just like the sprinters, he saw the parcours of this Giro and thought, this isnt a race for me. Soft.

Yoeki, there's two Thunders. The bikeforums.net one who must have found something better to do or his boss caught him goofing off and now has to do work during business hours, and the Norse god variant that flexes LOOK 585s for a living. The latter is doing the Volta a Catalunja or something in a week or two and building up for his Tour green jersey defence.

Sure. Just think of me as the Thylacine Credit Union. Granted, you get no interest and the Tellers aren't cute, but what other bank gives you a cool bike at the end?

I don't think that UncleBob guy is for real. Most guys with that sort of cash either like to pretend they're with Credit Agricole and get a Look, or will just end up with whatever Tupperware will impress their mates the most.
I reckon if I had that sort of cash I'd want something that blew minds. Something like a 953 tubed custom frame with some very clever parts selections to get it down to a very un steel-like weight would be an awesome project.

On the other hand, a Cervelo with Dura-Ace - appart from being out of fashion in 12 months - would suck when you roll up to Cafe Racer and see another one parked there.

Oh the humanity!

This post is gonna suck but whatever, if I had 10k for a bike I would go a custom built something. At least then no one is gonna have the bike you have, and custom is always in.

well I've had a search on the forums and it seems as though the homemade paint job will do the trick. Since it's black at the back already, I may try for pink front to black rear end with flames cut in on the TT and DT. I suppose if I fark it up I can just spray over it.

Thylo, based on that description you gave on cyclingforums im curious what the point would be of putting carbon stays on a Ti bike would be? given that everyone says Ti gives an awesome ride and is very compliant + also lasts a lifetime, why would you put carbon stays on there which are much more fragile and seem to have a vastly limited, or at least undetermined lifespan?
