Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chance of a lunchtime ride down M2 all but vanished today

Funny
So did anyone ever end up posting any pictures of this momentous occasion?

Say it isn't so! I was imagining a bunch of whippet-thin greyhounds on a hammerfest.

Bikes: Thylacines...only Thylacines.

Actually, in the two group rides I've on the road since deciding to get back into it, I've stacked both times!!!!

Firstly was into the back of Hitchy when he decided to stop for a couple of Jap tourists at the stop lights in St.Kilda (I mean really, who actually stops of pedestrians? Loose all streetwise roadie points immediately). Secondly was with some old mates up in the Dandenongs on a loop I'd never done before. We approached a roundabout, I went straight, they turned right.

Landed in the emergency room after that with a nice chainring induced gash in my leg.

Sorry to hear about your stack matagi. Heal fast.

It was there, in fact it did a dash from Mt Penang to Calga to pick up a guy who had put his rear derailleur into the spokes. He had only put 200km on the bike - he was not a happy camper (Cannondale R800 with 105 gruppo)

I don't think I want to share the details - it was due to a very stupid error on my part. Let's just say that when one re-assembles one's bike after taking it out of the back of the car, it is very important to connect the brakes before launching down a steep driveway.

But that isn't what I did ....no.. I was doing 60km/hr up Bumble Hill, when this wombat dashed out of nowhere. Yes, that's what happened. No, really, it did.

The most interesting stat? You've got a 6 times greater chance of killing youself intentionally than you have of someone else doing it for you.

Does anyone else find this mildly disturbing?

Damn, me bike's on eBay so I've swapped the pedals/wheels etc over to the bog standard stuff <== no riding it. Seems to be a lot of interest in it but FFS, I wish someone would just buy the bloody thing! Does everyone wait fer the last day of auction or summink?
I've got most of the $$ sitting here burning a hole and there's a shiny 5200 waiting at the shoppe.
