I had one of my favourite poverty meals for dinner. Hoppin' john with bread and butter. Desert of fresh pineapple and blueberries. Then second desert of tea biscuits and Mexican hot chocolate after the rain turned to snow.
Wound up being a near-vegetarian day for me. The hoppin' john had just a little bit of pork stock and bacon fat in it.

So when I growed up, I sought something to have instead, and happened upon Hoppin John. Made a big pot of it for New Years. Loved it. Mrs. GJ, who generally loves all beans, told me she did NOT like black eyed peas. So much for THAT tradition. Haven't made it since.

Bikes: More than I have room for.
We had a roomba because we had two black labs that shed like crazy - and a cat. The darn thing would either choke on the dog hair or get wedged under the several pieces of furniture. We had to roomba proof the room with all sorts of cushions so the thing woudln’t get stuck or try to vacuum up electric cords. And then there was zero programming so it was totally random and missed big areas, besides going into the bathroom and closing the door on itself and bumping itself until its battery died. Gave the thing away to the Goodwill with lots of bad will.
There needs to be one that is methodical using a grid and can be programmed to the grid or recognize furniture and not go cave diving and get stuck - at least they have auto empty when the start getting full these days, but don’t know how much they have improved since am not interested in dumping a wad of cash on another.

Short ride today in LA to Griffith Park. The ride in the park was very good, some of the roads were closed to cars and it was very peaceful. The roads outside the park were a mixed bag, I only got one scary buzz/close call, but it was quite unnerving. Pics below for those who don’t follow my Strava. Also, although super rare, if you had a more serious reaction (eg allergic reaction) it may be tough to tell which shot was the culprit if you got multiple ones.
The public health experts recommend getting them together because they prioritize getting people immunized and especially for underserved populations, you may not have a second chance. My patients are generally quite reliable so if I tell them come back in 2 weeks for another shot, they usually will.

I put about 30K miles on mine. Decided it was too stiff which may have had to do with running 23s @100psi or higher and the 3T Mutant bar and stem combo.
Bought the Gunnar and had them both for a while. Same tires and wheels and when I would get back on the Cannondale the difference was startling. Bone jarring, but not as stiff as the Tesch. I have a pic of it before I sold it but can't find it right now. It went to a good home.

That's how it was for me. The first dose was just sore at the injection site. The second dose knocked me flat for a day. But it's still better than suffering through full-blown shingles. My daughter has had shingles attacks four times now, starting at age 10 (she's now 35). Insurance won't cover vaccination until age 50, and it's super-expensive if you have to pay out of pocket. She caught the latest one early enough that the physician was willing to prescribe acyclovir, which really limited the adverse effects.

BTW, "Prime/Boost" gives you vastly better antibody titers than a single shot. We* use it with mice to get more and better antibody specificities.
*Not so much "we" anymore, now that I'm retired. More "they".

It was a great bike for smooth roads and good for climbing. I rode the thing for 5 years but I was only 48 or so when I got it. I think the roads around here are worse now and the Seven actually feels similar to that CAAD5. Not as stiff and a shorter top tube while having a 2cm taller seat tube (virtual). Of course, I now use 28s at lower pressures. It would be interesting to take it for a ride now.

After yesterday's double jab, Apple Health tells me:
- sleep score down
- resting heart rate up
- HRV down
- body temperature high
Probably.

That’s a very big corral. The fence was recently rebuilt by Amish. I’ve mucked it numerous times. And there are even two shelters. There is also a very large feeder. Tuesdays the farm is open to the public. It sells buckets of fruits and vegetables. The animals aren’t dumb. They know what Tuesdays mean.
