When i retired, I think I was about 215 lbs, +/- 5 lbs any given day. I was afraid I'd gain weight since snacks would be constantly available. Instead, I've lost 8 - 10 lbs, and currently find myself around 205 or so. I'm not riding much farther, but I've added a daily walk of between 1.5 - 2.5 miles, and I think I used to starve myself during the day and binge at night, and I'm doing less of that.

Speaking of which….
I try not to judge, but next to me at the gate is a very heavy guy, and he just walked back from the snack shop holding a bottle of coca-cola and a bag of Cheetos.

I do eat some junk food and much less since shedding weight is no longer easy.- My preference is home made chocolate chip cookies, but draw the line at donuts - so no contribution on that un-holy topic. Used to love bear claws, but back then, I could skip a meal and drop two pounds.
Heading out this AM for a club ride with 10 or so people for 50ish miles and 3K of climbing. Weather should be in the mid to high 60s which is ideal. Am NOT bringing the troublesome bike (Orbea)) because it needs a time out to think about the grief it/me caused yesterday, so am taking the disc/k bike instead. The only brake rub I should hear there is a ting, ting until it sorts itself.

Now that I am sedentary, I wonder if I will pack on the pounds again. When I was injured in 1988 I gained 35 pounds before I snapped out of it.

I've mentioned before, when I retired I was thinking I would certainly gain weight since at work I was on my feet and walking 5 days per week, plus the other physical aspects of the job, (getting on the floor and back up, lifting things, etc.). Instead, I lost weight. Less stress eating at the vending machines has to be part of it but I am also clearly less muscular than before.

In 1988 ice cream was a huge factor. I would get the half gallon of Heavenly Hash and down it in 2 sittings. I have been staying away from it the last several years and have advised Mrs. John to not buy it for me but she sometimes still does.

eat cheesecake to your heart's content. It is an ideal weight loss food.

I only rarely drink sodas, never alcohol, have non fat milk with cereal and fruit juice other times. Love some tortilla chips, though. Lots of carbs.

Pepsi, not water, was the beverage of choice in my dad's house, growing up. I was so glad to cut out that habit, in my early adulthood, and now have a hard time fathoming the monstrous drink sizes common in the US (which goes a long way towards explaining obesity issues).
Ick. Those calories are so much better spent on baked goods.

im lucky to have a somewhat lean body type, you can tell by looking at my wrists and ankles. leggy too with a long inseam (32" at 5'9"). still though, i carry more mass on my upper body than i'd like, have a big chest. usually around 150 although i try to be closer to 145 as much as is reasonable. i was 155-160 for a while after college, losing 10 lbs was big for my cycling performance. was a stagnant category 3 racer for a long time and started winning a lot with that weight loss. power the same more or less
for me a lot of it is bloating too - I think that at my size, just water weight from eating salty food can swing the weight a couple lbs in either direction. during the work week I meal prep overnight oats w berries and boiled eggs, and a veggie sandwich for lunch. so that's pretty clean living most of the time. dinner is often more unhealthy and accompanied by a couple drinks, although we do cook a lot and have some health recipies. and at least 1-2 nights/week w no alcohol.
I think big john hit a nuance that resonates with me - not restricting too much during the day. you end up snacking and just eating a huge dinner. it really is better for you to eat more during the day and have a modest portion before going to bed. helps w sleep quality too if you don't have a bunch of digestion to do at night. or so I think
Pretty sure datlas is the leanest regular contributor to this thread, or at least in lbs/in of height. Chris Froome body type.

late FF submission. been big on Eric Gale for a while now. this one is quite tasty.
looked up his bio. I guess he was a talented chemist and musician. chose music instead of PhD in Chemistry. So he aligns with my interests too, although I've never been in a position to consider a career in music hehe. Eric would get afterschool daycare and mentorship in John Coltrane's home - guy's got some talent!

Not that I ever drank a lot, but when I was a ute I didn't realize how much sugar soft drinks have. It's crazy.

You’re only 6’? I thought by looking at your bikes that you were much taller.

[short video showing the first NS freight train to arrive in Asheville since Helene]
I'm 5' 10"ish (177.8cm). Current weight unknown (I don't have a scale, might get weighed at the witch doctor on Friday). Maybe I've gained a pound or two of muscle with my 12 lb dumbbell/pushup workouts.
Thank you.

Thank you.

San Luis Rey Road Race Report, Master's 35-44 State/SCNCA champs
Place: 6th / 14 in the 40-44 AG, 11th / 30 or so overall. Holy crap that was hard. Course is 4x ~14 mi loops with the S/F at the top of a climb. Out and back so you have 2 opps per lap to see the situation on the road.
Lap 1 was ballistic. Esp. the climb. I was going 400-450w up all the steep ramps. I crested the top still attached, field split in half.
Lap 2 I became dislodged on the climb with cramps. Field split all TF over the road, no concerted group anymore. I considered quitting... but glad I didn't. I knew half the race was behind me. A couple guys crested just a little ahead of me (~20s) and I knew I could TT my way back onto them. Lubin and Fern, good guys that I know personally. They were nice enough to let me skip a couple pulls once I caught them.
Climb on lap 3 - Lubin goes caput. Just me and Fern. I told him that I would cramp again if he climbed too hard. Which he didn't, and I think that was in both of our interests. Since I'm able to pull harder/faster on the flat.
Going into the final climb (lap 4). I know Fern is going to drop me and I'm hoping that I can ride Z2 to the finish since I'm freaking spent. Fortunately I was able to. Someone was gaining ground on me too, and was only ~10-15s off my wheel at the line. But I held it for a hard fought 6th.
Takeaways: I need to work on my conditioning more, specifically heat. Not that it was even that hot. I get so accustomed to riding very early so I should have done even just a few mid afternoon rides inland to acclimate. I think I had too much coffee too beforehand. End result is HR too high at mid to low zones - this doesn't help. I also found myself rationing water since I tried to survive with two bottles. Lessons for next time.
