Thanks!
Thanks!
Also a prerequisite for any Pcad thread.
I didn't say I wanted to do well, I just said I wanted to try it. It still counts as trying it if I vomit my lungs ten feet after the start and drag them along the ground to the finish. I heard it's only a DNF if I catch any dangling viscera in the spokes. Eyes on the prize, I always say.

Papa P, what's the model of Mazda that you're always bragging about? We have a dying car (the other shoe you were talking about?
) that really needs to be replaced....

Extra college for fancy writin': good for something after all.
Thanks, I gotta stop mentioning it though, or you'll catch on that you say this every time. I'm going to sound like I'm selling something or have nothing else to offer, and that's just not true. I have very little to offer. The difference is subtle, but important.

Hey Pcad,
Do you ever break away from a group ride due to route dissatisfaction?
Today I tried the small urban ride to downtown for the third time. Previously, we had done only small stretches of greenway to connect roads where the traffic isn't so good. But today for whatever dumb reason the leader opted to go on as much greenway as possible. I wasn't in the mood for a greenway ride so at the midway stop I simply broke off and rode solo.
Velo Vol rode alone.
Although the tornadoes are gone and the sun is out, someone forgot to tell the wind. Fought it all the way bake home. On one downhill slope that I usually ride 22-24 mph when calm, the gusts today slowed me down to 13 mph at one point. It was kind of depressing.

On rides like Nyack it's different, they'll just figure you got dropped.

I don't like riding with a group.

Rain today and tomorrow. This spring has been rough, not so much with the weather, more with my health. Photo below was my last race with the team (besides the TT), 3.28 in Prospect Park, I had a bad cold, got shelled on lap 7. In all the photos from this race, everybody looks like they're suffering.

After that a complicated tooth extraction and two weeks on pain pills. Like I said it has been a crappy March/April.

Yep, I too gave up on traveling hours and spending a lot of money for a 35 minute crit...time was better spent on a hard, team training ride.

As has been said to you...recently in fact...it takes time to become a good racer. It took me several years before I was in the top 10 at the finish of cat3 and vets races...a few more years before I won my first race.
Think about what went right and what went wrong in today's race.
Do you keep a journal? You should. I have 20 years worth of the darn things. Very valuable...Write down what went right and wrong, how you felt, etc.
Then think about your preparations. Do you lack strength and conditioning? That takes time. Did you make mental mistakes, inadequate food/water, etc. It is not one thing but many that go into making a good racer.
Give it time and don't give up...
