Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Indeed. An intoxicated youth turned left into me a couple years ago resulting in a left front to left front collision at about 10 or so MPH each. He was in a Ford Ranger (little pickup truck).

My Volvo suffered a compressed bumper shock, broken headlight assembly and damaged headlight trim (still cost his insurance $3k as I lost patience when he decided to lie - but that's off topic).

The Ranger's radiator blew when it smashed into the engine/fan and the frame/steering linkage bent such that it would not turn right.

I drove home. He went home in a squad car and the truck stayed there for weeks.

Bikes: Velo Volmobile

I could do it with sufficient support. I won't set any speed records, but I'd go the distance.

Credit card touring. Hot shower, a massage, and a restaurant at the end of each day.

I haven't done it, but that's the way I would do it if I did do it.

Touring is even dumber than racing. And even pricier.

TdF. Best of both worlds -- 3 week tour made up of daily racing.

the only part of this concept that baffles me is clothing. what do you wear at night between rides, and how do you get fresh cycling clothes?

Here's a more manageable challenge: Climb a hill without having to stop for an oxygen break.

OK, your turn.

talking about idiotfest, I've decided I will no longer carry anything with me other than a mobile phone for all future rides.

I once did one of those ride across the state events. It was Delaware though, so we had to do it twice to make it worth while.

It could be worse.

Have you tried reading the driving safety vs. bike safety thread? Many in the BikeForums weenieverse simply don't have a clue how to analyze statistics.

I'm done with my homework and it's barely after 8. I don't know what to do with myself.
