Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe, that's as high as I've ever gotten though.

Max heat rate is a pretty pointless metric. If you are training with HR zones I suggest you find your LTHR and establish your zones around this number.

Hehe. Right on the money.

In fairness, there are some talented people posting good stuff there. But there is plenty of stuff like this:

- I got podium at the Tour of who-gives-a-f**k.
- Dude, you're awesome.
- No, no, you're awesome. Anyway, I won a plastic trophy and a $5 Walt-Mart gift certificate. It was epic. And I haven't even replaced the Zipps tubulars that I destroyed in the crash during the crit last week.
- Wow, man you're a monster.
- Yes, I'm going to update my blog, and then go to the 41 to tell the Freds how much they suck.

Correct.

It's like a whole other level of Bike Weenie Delusional Idiocy, one we in the 41 can strive for, but never truly attain.

Ok just wanted to make sure, your file showed that 186 or whatever was like 103% your max.

As you get older, your max hr progressively drops, mine is now 183-185 tops (it was 195+ when I started racing 20 years ago). Eventually it goes to zero, along with your resting hr. Then you'll really be fit.

Who here wears gloves while cycling? I hate them, but am starting to think it would be a good idea.

I feel like had I not killed myself attacking I would have placed better, but it was fine. No one would let me back into the pack so I had issues there. Met up with mike afterwards too which was cool.

Average includes my post-race lap which was slower.

Nicely done.

I'm not a race strategy guru, but this strikes me as a Freddly approach for a rookie. It's a pretty high bar for coasting to hurdle, but I bet he's capable.

I didn't until I went down and got a ton of gravel embedded in my palm. That was fun.

I found that out of the many fingerless gloves I've gone through, Specialized is my favorite.

Probably, but it was still fun. Let me have my moment.

Speaking of Specialized, they actually make some solid accessories. I wanted Sidi shoes but their BG shoes fit so much better.

Bought this computer today for my wife to replace her Cateye that broke in half last Sunday. I have the same one, but without the altimeter. The stem mount is a nice feature. $90.

Altimeter problem solved.

So if the TdF stage runs a little long because the pace is too slow, they don't cross the finish line in time, and my DVR cuts off the last few mins of the race.

Ass.

Those friggin UCI Freds have to pick it up already. WTF. They're pros, they're not supposed to be too slow. What's up with that?

If Lance cracks tomorrow, between the Mets and Lance, it will be the Sports Fan Perfect Storm for me, and I'll have to kill myself.

Hey Pcad - do you talk to yourself in real life? It would not surprise me.

It's not worth it anymore. I'll stick with group rides with the Road Nazis and TTs. Maybe the Spring Series just to get in shape. But this driving 120 miles round trip and getting up @ 3:45AM to wind up as pack fodder on a good day, can't handle it anymore. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I like the TTs, I love the Nyack Ride, like riding fast, want to stay in shape, but I don't do this to race, never did, even when I was a bit faster in my distant youth.

I can't stand group rides with Freds anyway. Too annoying. I really don't want to friggin chit chat, I just want to hammer on some fast wheels, and if I'm not hammering I want to ride alone. Try to tear my legs off or drop my ass, but for God's sake, don't effing talk to me when I'm riding my bicycle.
