Addiction I
The one that comes around here sounds a little different. Whenever it played through the tune, it used to have a voice that blurted out "Hello!" before it repeated the cycle. But this year I haven't noticed that.

Do you have any idea how many times I've heard these inane lectures from cops on that ride? Cripes, I've lost count.

300+ miles for every week in June and July 2010. 396 miles this week.
That's how Pcad rolls.

The Nyack Ride was also pulled over in Tenafly by a misguided officer who seemed to think yelling at the bunch will change the Nyack Ride. Silly cop. He may as well piss into a tornado.

I went on a group ride earlier with a new club that I haven't ridden with... I rolled with the guys that race doing the "hard" route. I/We were doing 30 (flats/false flats) for most of the time.
We hit a hard hill (23% grade - unsure of length) and my legs just went completely jello/seriously in pain.... I had to bow out and ride the route of shame home. T'was not a good day for me.

Since you're going now for miles (rather than speed), maybe you should get rid of the Addiction or the Cervelo and get a comfortable bike (such as a CD Synapse or Specialized Roubaix).

I am not bouncing back from this ride today. I'll feel better tomorrow.

Was that you on the upper part of the climb rolling down? You waved at me, I would have waved but I was waving at the runners on my right, so I couldn't wave at both of you. But I did feel guilty for not returning a fellow bike weenie's wave.

Correct. That's widely known as Gate Hill Road, which is incorrect, it's actually W.Grove Road. I haven't felt that fried on that climb in a couple of years. I had nothin at the end today. The problem is that I'm still 20+ miles from home at the top of that climb, and there's still a considerable amount of grinding climbing after that.

yeah, guilty as charged; i was in my columbia kit. i was actually surprised that there weren't more cyclist. when i passed you, i saw the figure of a cyclist first, then the brauer kit, then the 404, and i was pretty certain it was you. i actually wanted to stop, head back & say hi, but my legs were too toasted. my ride back to NYC afterwards sucked, and i was so tired after the GWB that i said eff it & took the subway home. it's not a lot of fun when my HR is jacked & i'm going 16mph...

I'm 52 by the way. 53 in November. Hell, there's a guy on that ride who's fitter than me and he's friggin 60. Racing. Who the hell am I going to race? They're all faster than me now. Besides, I've been racing on and off for 20 friggin years. What did I ever get? A bunch of $25 prizes and a little plastic trophy. God what a dumb sport.
I do this to stay skinny and sane. Hey, one out of two ain't bad.
The more miles I ride, the happier I am. And I don't know why.

I do that like once a year when I'm feeling ambitious. When I do the Nyack Ride I typically just drive to the bike shop in Piermont and do the 50 mile loop with them. But I wanted the miles today. Managed to hang with those boys until 9W, but that ride was shattered. There was a break of like 10 guys that we were never going to see again, another group of 5 chasing them, then the bunch. I was in the bunch. Hell, my goal today was just to be close enough to hit somebody in the back of the head with a Frisbee by the time we got to the top of Scratchup (that's about 3-4 mles from the end). That's where I went north and they turned south.

By the way mcjim, my kid will probably be applying to Columbia, Barnard and NYU this fall.
Don't ask me how the F we're going to pay for this. We're working on that. I'd murder my parents to the inheritance money, but then I'd have no parents, and I still love them. It's a problem.

you would have hated us on the way back home then where the only relief came in the form of two riders getting flats. The Cat 1 rider in the group decided he was in the mood to sprint and left most of us sheltering and trying to catch up; he did come back to sting the group back together. The one sprint I didn't even bother was when he took off on the Palisades Ave hills heading to 9W, I attempted to make the effort but didn't want to break my legs and since I didn't have my Life Alert on me I couldn't have called and said "I've fallen and I can't get up".
What more do you want? Podium girls and soft cheese?

Oh, by the way, yesterday, I rode from Chester to Hudson Terrace (Fort Lee, it was 58 miles one way on the back roads, it's shorter on the highway) where my wife met me for our trip into Manhattan to tour NYU. So I'm riding down 9W on a Saturday morning, which I never do, and I really was taken with what a Bike Weenie Expressway it has become. Even though I was heading south against the flow, there were still plenty of Freds to chase down and pass, one after another, like some bizarro form of FredPac-Man . Finally, I got one Fred pissed off, and he stormed past me on his Cervelo TT bike, which was perfect, because I was running late, and I sucked his Fast Fred wheel 5 miles all the way to Tenafly (I pulled up to him and asked him if he minded, he said no problem).
It was Big Fun.
I lived in that area for many years (Hillsdale, NJ) and trained up there regularly from 1990-1997. The increase in Bike Weenie traffic up there is exponential. Very cool.
