Something that increases safety isn't exactly a convenience.
I also think a lot of things may be a convenience but I could argue being able to contact someone in certain circumstances is more than a convenience.
But I think we could all do without cellphones.

I stopped watching (i.e., fell back asleep) TV shortly after the kids (as Pcad calls them) got in the carriage and drove away from the Abby. So I never got the closure of seeing them waving and smooching from the balcony.

I'm sure they replayed it on the evening news.

My phone was very convenient this afternoon, when I was at the mechanic's getting Mrs. RJ's Jeep inspected. I saved me from having to watch the soap operas they had on the TV.

I used to absolutely despise cell phone. Then it happened. My family and I went to a Notre Dame football game ( against UCONN, my alma mater). There were six of us, my wife, myself and 4 kids. my youngest Sam was 10. Throughout the game this creepy 65 y.o. man kept looking at my 2 boys. Then he took pictures of them on the sly. Getting kind of weird. As the game ended we started heading out amongst the masses when we noticed Sam was gone. Vanished. All of us are calling out, the police are now looking, panic is now setting in. This is how it begins I think, the tragedy of an abducted child. Minutes pass, up and down the isles we go shouting for sam. Then my cell goes off. "Dad...where are you guys" It's Sam and all is well. I have treasured the cell phone ever since.

so the running thing is going pretty well... I will still be unprepared for the half, but I am doing so much better than I ever felt possible. I never thought I could just wake up and run 5 miles and come back not really feeling tired and beat up I always used to associate running with pain.
I feel really guilty about thinking it, but I also feel good that I am not the limiting factor when running with my wife (she hurt her foot a few weeks back). Anyway today it was incredible outside perfect sun perfect fluffy clouds perfect temp. Good time with the wife and dog.

A lot has happened in the past week. But before I summarize, I want to announce that I got a
Garmin Edge 500
HR Monitor
Speed/Cadence sensor
Shimano SPD Pedals/Cleats
Look Tri shoes
I'm finishing up the site I'm doing for bikes direct and my second half of my payment in the form of a new tri bike will arrive shortly thereafter. At which point I am going to seriously progress my training forward.
I'll look through the thread later tonight. Got a dinner/movie date with my wife. First time since our son was born.

Oh stop it! You know damn well how the world works . . . you can't please everybody so don't even try. Just do your own thing and the hell with what other people think.
I know you know these things already, but sometimes we just need a reminder.

A lot of wind, but I really love the trail I did laps on. Being able to monitor my cadence I noticed that before the Edge I liked to coast a lot. Not this time. There was no coasting.
I was using a Garmin 60CSx prior to this; it's soooo nice to be bale to see HR/Cadence. And I didn't know it had a thermometer on it. This is the coolest toy I've bought myself in a long time.
Shower time. Who's coming?

I haven't ridden my bike a whole hell of a a lot in the past three weeks. Trying to rest my tendinitis in my ankle. Raced a crit today. Ended up 4th. I am happy with that. I heard allot of carbon banging around behind me. Kinda just happy to finish w/o crashing. I should of attacked earlier, I couldn't out sprint three of them.
