Yep, all from the baseline. Women's tennis has achieved what it set out to do... make its game universal among the men, too. It's almost as boring now as watching golf, sailing (and I do sail) or dare I say it, the intermediary bits between the sprints on the Tour de France.

Actually, I wonder how you TdF-ophyles are going to be after three weeks of watching guys spinning along. Dammit, I can't tell one rider from the other in the bunches. If it wasn't for those overhead shots showing the peloton splitting at roundabouts, or the crashes, what really is there to see?

There is, in fact, nothing to see in the Tdf. In fact it is very similar to Formula1 where a bunch of cars in bright livery go round and round in a seemingly endless procession.

But people like me still get hooked because of the uncertainty. It's a 'thrill of the chase' scenario where the chase is predicting an outcome, be it in the next 30 seconds, 30 minutes, or the end of the race. It's sheer madness because it's so inconsequential, but damned interesting all the same. Especially if you add beer.

don't skimp on cheap nicks....your 'saccy' will thank you in the long run. Try Ebay, (don't buy 2nd hand knicks though!....people do though, can you believe it?). Some good quality stuff to be had at pretty reasonable prices. Avoid anything branded 'Prorace', its absolute crap.

Haven't been riding much, but have had a chance to swim a bit. BTW, I was at my tennis club recently having a 'pit stop' when a tall American stood beside me at the urinal and proceeded to do what we blokes do. I now boast that I took a pee talking to Andy Roddick!! Funny thing is, he wasn't all that talkative...go figure??

i reckon they are more comfortable. but maybe a bit inconvenient when you need to drop your daks.you have to take your jersey off to drop 'em.

apparently more panels makes a difference too - more shaped fit. and make sure you look after your new ones. dry them flat on a towel out of the sun etc. they last longer this way.

I'm with you on the 'no talc powder' thing; I really don't think it's necessary.
I've had sticky tubes before, but it's not like they're super-glued to the rim tape or the inside of the tyre.
Maybe it's worse in warmer climates, I dunno.

Having too much talc around the place can make it harder to grip the tyre to get it on,
and have you ever tried to get ALL the talc off the tube to fix a flat?
Puncture glue is very temperamental, it won't stick to talc coz NOTHIN sticks to talc.

Also, I like to use very high pressures (~160psi), and when the tyre gets a little old and a bit stretched,
I get paranoid that the presence of talc will slightly increase the chances of the tyre blowing off the rim

Well, you said that Colnago's offerings had more cache then than they do now. My question is how did Colnago's offerings significantly differ from the other Italian racing bike frames available then to give them this cache?

I think his products then were more like everyone else's than they were different and his products today are more different than everyone else's than they are the same, giving them more cache. And if his products in the 70's were more similar to others than they were different, can they really be called his best work?

I think he has really hit his stride in the last 5 years, given technology has removed the limitations holding his obvious creativity back.

But I suppose the real question is, does he talc or not?
