Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It looked almost grey, and I actually think it looked a bit cheap. It definitely didn't look

add another two grand.

Oh, I dunno. Test cricket's so boring it needs a bit of livening up. A bit of needle at the opposition batsmen doesn't go astray. I say bring back the days when Lillee tried to wipe out Javed with his bat. Great stuff that lives on as legend. Bet they replay more of that incident in a decade than Clarke's century ever will be. I say let's dedicate one session a day of a Test match to getting the aggression out of every player's system in any way they see fit. Of course, you'd have to watch out for Warnie fagging and screwing away behind the change rooms. You could get the spectators in on the act as well by having them lob a few full beer cans into the arena. That sure would swell the gate takings in a flash.

And suspending Ganguly for two Tests coz the over rate in a one-dayer was a bit slow? WTF???!! He obviously was confused about which game he was playing -- Test or one-dayer.

Anyway, Gilchrist seems to be getting a bit rough around the edges, what with the mullet and all. Good to see the goodie-two-shoes image getting a bit of tarnish. Can't stand born-agains.

And Ponting not being happy? Geez, I remember the dust-up when he got a black eye over a TV-hooker. Good to see a hooligan can become Australian cricket captain and all the kudos that carries with old man John, the PM.

There's hope for all of us, yet. Except maybe Hitchy.

According to Guiness Book of Records we have a long way to go:

The highest speed ever achieved on a bicycle is 268.831 km/h (167.043 mph), by Fred Rompelberg (The Netherlands) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, on October 3, 1995.

but this guy takes the cake with an amazing 334km/h (92m/s!!!) on his 'home-trainer' https://www.britannia.com/panorama/bike.html

YOWZA!! I didn't know they were that much -- what a fukn joke!! I know it's carbon, and French, blah blah....but still...

I don't think I'll ever spend spend that much on a frame, not even when I'm a tragic
old guy with (hopefully) more money.

The guy on the TIME was youngish and kinda short, with blue and white gear on.

:
I've read the book about the speed records, much of which is dedicated Rompelberg's achievement.
It's available in many libraries.

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Tandems are the way to go for speed! I'm in NSW, but not an Aussie, or a roadie, just having a sticky beek.

Hey Expat, did you find an MTB ride up your way? I posted a couple of links on your thread, dunno if they will help though.

Sorry, I edited my post about the speed records, which now makes your post seem redundant, because the "fact" I mentioned about the tandem looks like it may be crap

I don't think Gilly is a "born again".....or is he? He sure acts like one sometimes.

What tubes do you guys use?

I had problems with Conti Supersonics, and other brands have crap valve stems
that you can't keep the pump on.

Lately I've been using Clements and Tioga Super Lights.

you may be able to tell me the tube manufacture: there is only enough thread to screw on the valve cap, and the rest of the valve stem is smooth ,which is great because the valve tool remouves easier without the chance of cutting the tube on the rim hole.

You get stuck with a tandem on a single, and you're in for a real fast ride. If you drop off the back, it's nigh on impossible to get back on again, EXCEPT when it gets to going uphill.

I don't know about those skinny tire tandems, but we do ok keeping up in group rides. And off road, we do pretty good as well. Slower through technical stuff, but the bike just rolls through anything. Plenty of credit to my wife for hanging on through the rough stuff. We'd build a road tandem, but she doesn't like going past 50 or 60Km/H, so it would be an expensive and pointless exercise.

Wow, it was pretty blowy out there last night fellas. I went down to Mordy and back, with my highest average for that distance (70km) so far - 29.0kph.

I guess that puts me into the 'Advanced Newbie' category!

Interesting new pain last night too - the top of my kneecaps, especially the left knee. Not bad today though, I seem to recover pretty okay these days.

Anyone else get on the bike yesterday? Remind me not to take up Kitesurfing - every man and his dog appears to be getting into that these days.
