Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is the dilemma I'm facing between those two wheelsets. The bling and lightness of the 7850's vs the slightly taller profile of the Williams. I have a month or so to mull it over.

Get the 7850s. If you really want aero, get Zipp 404s later.

FYI, the DA WH7850 C24 CL weigh approximately 1440g with the newer rim tape (Shimano was using plugs before the recall) on my Park Tools scale. AFAIK, the scale has a 20g margin of error.

Who can say? I have 4 road bikes, a bunch of wheels. 4-5,000 miles? Just a guess. My total mileage this year will be 10-11K, last year it was 12,000 or so.

Yes, the Zipps are reasonably durable. On the other hand I had three sets of Ksyriums (different ones) over five years and never broke a spoke, never needed truing in 50,000 miles of riding.

Hey Pcad,

What is your sinful indulgence now? For example, what was the most fattening thing you ate today?

The Redskins rolled the dice a bit but addressed a need. Hope it works out.

Uh, Broncos?

Oh by the way the Jets got the best DB in the draft. They also got that kick ass LB from Miami. The best defense in the NFL just got better.

What's with everyone getting new wheels or even bikes?

But I'm not to be outdone; I'm awaiting my PBK two tyres + free tubes combo order.

Exciting!

Up and over Mt. Peter and Mt. Bonehead both ways again today. Ouch Redeaux.

I keep hoping the Greenwood Lake cop will write me up as I plunge past his radar trap @ 44 in the 30mph zone, but he doesn't even look up from his donut.

pcad. I entered a race tomorrow, 4/5 crit in trenton NJ you should come.

I went to the local practice crit yesterday to make sure I am up to it. The local thing is not sponsered by anyone and is cat1-5 guys and girls and freakin fast. for 18 glorious minutes I had an average of 26.4...then it rained which turned out to be an awesome excuse to not continue. I don't think the 4/5 guys will be going that fast tomorrow (I hope).

Nothing sounds better than the soft buzz of a clean drivetrain.
